The Appalachian State Mountaineers head into this game with a record of 0-1 after losing what may have been the most exciting game last week. The Mountaineers faced off at home against the North Carolina Tar Heels and lost by a final score of 63-61. Interestingly, the Mountaineers scored 40 points in the fourth quarter. They ended the third quarter trailing by 20 points and were able to tie the game late in the fourth quarter. With under 4 minutes left in the game, there were 4 touchdowns scored to end the game. The Mountaineers had 649 total yards of offense in this game. Absolutely insane. They had 361 passing yards and 288 rushing yards. Quarterback Chase Brice threw for 361 yards and 6 touchdowns while only throwing one touchdown. Running back Nate Noel was able to rush for 116 yards and 2 touchdowns. Both of these players had great games but it wasn’t enough for them to win. The Mountaineers’ defense did force a fumble but it was not enough as they allowed 567 total yards of offense while allowing a fourth-down conversion on a drive that ended in a touchdown. In this game against the Aggies, expect Brice and Noel to have similar performances if they want to have a chance.
The Texas A&M Aggies head into this game with a record of 1-0 after winning their season opener against the Sam Houston Bearkats by a final score of 31-0. The Aggies had just under 500 total yards of offense with 497. They had the majority of their yards in the passing game with 387 and had the rest on the ground with 110 rushing yards. Interestingly enough, the offense had two interceptions thrown. Quarterback, Haynes King, was able to overshadow his two turnovers by throwing for 364 yards and 3 touchdowns. He connected on two touchdowns with wide receiver, Ainias Smith, who also had 164 receiving yards on 6 catches, averaging 27.3 yards per reception. The Aggies defense also played a huge role as they held the Bearkats to under 200 total yards of offense and forced two turnovers. Expect King to have a better game protecting the ball and leading the Aggies to another victory.
The Aggies should win this one as they are the #6 ranked team. It is a little concerning that their starting quarterback threw 2 interceptions in a game against a team that was not as talented as they are. Better for the Aggies that this performance happened in that game rather than in future ones. Both of these teams are capable of scoring a lot of points and I expect this game to be high scoring.
For our expert pick, take the over on the total points scored in the game.
