Rebels to Extend Streak

rebels vs lobos

The UNLV Rebels host the New Mexico Lobos on Friday, September 30th at 11:00 pm. This game will be played at Allegiant Stadium and will be the 5th game both of these teams play this season.  This will be the second year these two teams play each other as they matched up last year.  The Rebels are currently on a one-game winning streak against the Lobos. Last year they won by a final score of 37-17 on the road. The odds for this game are currently set at -650 UNLV, +460 New Mexico, and the over/under is 44.0 according to Caesars Casino & Sportsbook. New users will receive a Risk-Free Bet of up to $1250 on their first wager. When you make your first bet, if it loses, it’s on the house as Caesars will refund any losing wagers in full (up to $1250 in the form of a single-use bonus credit Plus Caesar’s is adding 1,000 Reward Credits and 1,000 Tier Credits). The New Mexico Lobos are currently 2-2 on the season and head into this game having lost to the LSU Tigers on the road by a final score of 38-0. In that game against the Tigers, the Lobos got demolished. The key statistic from that game was the total yards of offense. The Tigers had 633 yards total yards and the Lobos had 88. Quarterback Miles Kendrick led the team in passing yards with 51 and was able to connect with wide receiver Jaden Hullaby for 33 yards which was the longest play of the day for New Mexico. Nothing from that game gives any reason to believe that the Lobos were on the same level as the Tigers but New Mexico’s defense was able to force a fumble. Hard to imagine that the Lobos will be able to do any damage against the Rebels after such an embarrassing performance. On the season, Kendrick has only passed for 430 yards. The team has not even recorded 1,000 total yards of offense. This team will need essentially a miracle if they are to win this game. New Mexico’s issue is their offense as their defense has forced 11 turnovers so far this season.

The UNLV Rebels on the other hand are currently 3-1 on the season and head into this game having won on the road against the Utah State Aggies by a final score of 34-24. In that game, quarterback Doug Brumfield threw for 217 yards and one touchdown and was able to rush for two touchdowns. The Rebels had 320 yards of total offense and had possession of the ball for about 10 more minutes compared to the Aggies. The Rebels have a great defense and it showed in the game against the Aggies as they forced 6 turnovers. 5 of the turnovers were interceptions and the other was a fumble. Unlike the Lobos, the Rebels have 1,750 yards of total offense on the season and their quarterback has passed for 990 yards. Clearly, this team knows how to move the ball and cause problems for the other team.

I think this game will be slow and one-sided. The Rebels already beat the Lobos last year and they should be able to repeat this year. UNLV has a much better football team compared to New Mexico and it will show in this game. They are both in the Mountain West conference and this game will help the Rebels in the standings.
