Tonight the number 25 ranked Houston squad will take on the Texas Tech red Raiders. And a huge surprise it is actually Texas Tech who is favored in this game despite playing a ranked opponent. The Red Raiders built a 32-point halftime lead against visiting Murray State and cruised to a 63-10 win in their home opener. The Cougars on the other hand, gave up a game-tying field goal to Texas-San Antonio on the final play of regulation before prevailing 37-35 in triple overtime. Red Raiders backup Donovan Smith completed 14 of 16 passes for 221 yards and four touchdowns after taking over when Tyler Shough injured his left (non-throwing) collarbone in the first quarter. Shough had completed six of his 10 passes for 154 yards and a touchdown before suffering the injury that is expected to sideline him for several weeks. Houston’s Clayton Tune completed 22 of 32 passes for 206 yards and three scores and ran for a team-high 51 yards and a touchdown. He also had the game-winning two-point conversion run in the third overtime. Looking holistically I understand why Houston is the underdog, but I see them bouncing back.
