The Kansas State Wildcats head into this game with a record of 2-1. Last week they lost to the Tulane Green Wave by a final score of 17-10. This game against the Sooners will be the first time the Wildcats have to play on the road. In the game against the Green Wave, the Wildcats struggled to piece together many scoring opportunities. Quarterback Adrian Martinez led the Wildcats in passing yards with 150. He also threw one touchdown and rushed for 59 yards but this wasn’t enough for the Wildcats. Runningback Deuce Vaughn rushed for 81 yards and caught 8 passes for 30 yards. It was a pretty underwhelming performance for the Wildcats and they never looked like they were able to assert their dominance against the Green Wave. The defense, however, had a strong outing as they forced two turnovers and held the Green Wave to converting only 1 third down out of 12 attempts. This game would have been an easy win for the Wildcats if they had better offensive performances as they only converted 2 third downs out of 15 attempts. In this game against the Sooners, the Wildcats will need the offense to do a better job of scoring points as they will be entering an environment they have not played in all season.
The Oklahoma Sooners head into this home game with a record of 3-0. As of now, they are ranked as the #6 team in the country. They are coming off of a strong road win against the Nebraska Cornhuskers where they won by a final score of 49-14. In that game, quarterback Dillon Gabriel threw for 230 yards and two touchdowns and also had 55 rushing yards and a touchdown. He was able to destroy the Cornhuskers through the air and the ground. Runningback Eric Gray joined Gabriel in dominating the rushing game as he rushed for 113 yards and two touchdowns. The Sooners were able to record over 200 more total yards of offense compared to the Cornhuskers in that game. Oklahoma’s defense also had a great performance as they forced Nebraska to commit two turnovers and held them to a below 50% 3rd down conversion rate. Now at home, the Sooners should be able to add another win against the Wildcats and add to their campaign for the college football playoffs.
This game will be high scoring as every game since 2012 has exceeded the 53-point total. These two teams need to win this game for their own reasons but it seems that Oklahoma is too good for the Wildcats and should take care of business. The Wildcats could upset the Sooners but it is unlikely especially given their poor performance last week against Tulane.
