A huge Saturday night matchup is on our hands this week in college football as two powerhouse programs will be pitted against each other.
The No. 7 Notre Dame Fighting Irish will be traveling into the south to take on No. 3 Georgia Bulldogs. These two teams have been in the national spotlight this decade, but have yet to win the College Football Playoff. We will take a look at the matchup and preview the best bets for the game.
Notre Dame at Georgia Game Overview
Notre Dame has been a sort of laughingstock of the college football world this decade. As one of the most historic programs in the country, it has been a while since the Irish have achieved national prominence.
The Irish had an undefeated regular season in 2018 and went into the College Football Playoff facing the Clemson Tigers. The Irish were trounced in a similar fashion to that of 2013 when Alabama stomped them out of the BCS National Championship game.
Notre Dame is looking to break this streak and prove that they can be just as threatening in the postseason as the regular season. This will be the biggest regular-season game that Notre Dame has had in a long time.
Quarterback Ian Book will be facing one of the toughest defenses in the country.
The Irish have yet to face a ranked opponent this season, so it is hard to determine how they will handle being an underdog in this game. The Georgia crowd will be very rowdy for their Bulldogs.
Georgia isn’t just all about defense either, Jake Fromm and D’Andre Swift lead a balanced rushing and passing attack. Fromm has already surpassed 600 yards in two games and has thrown for five touchdowns, while Swift has rushed for nearly 300 yards and two touchdowns. These two have been the essential leaders for Georgia’s offense for the past two seasons.
Notre Dame will have a tough job maintaining Swift in the run game. If Swift gets going early, the passing attack will be all too easy for Fromm and his receivers. This game has the potential to get ugly and out-of-hand fast.
If Georgia has an opening touchdown drive to start the game, expect them to continue rolling against an unproven Notre Dame defense.
