NORTH CAROLINA TAR HEELS FOOTBALL | SEASON WINS | PICKS AND PREDICTIONS | OSB
North Carolina season wins o/u 10 prediction
The North Carolina Tar Heels season in 2020 was quite a surprise. After finishing 7-6 in the 2019 season, the Tar Heels closed 2020 with an impressive 8-4 record. This culminated in the Tar Heels in a three-way tie for third place in the ACC. Fortunately for the Tar Heels, Clemson and Notre Dame were selected for the College Football Playoffs. This resulted in them being chosen to play in the Orange Bowl, their first major bowl appearance since 1949.
The team they faced in the Orange Bowl was Texas A&M, another team that had a phenomenal season. Ranked number five by the AP, Texas A&M was a heavy favorite going into the game. Unfortunately for North Carolina, the Aggies lived up to their expectations and the Tar Heels lost 41-27. However, the 2020 season set the bar high for them in 2021. Now, plenty of people are wondering if the Tar Heels could be a future National Champion. For now, let’s take a look at whether or not they’ll go over or under the 9.5 win total. The Tar Heels are next in our ACC Football: Over/Under Predictions
Mack Brown, The Real Reason Behind The Success
This is Mack Brown’s second stint with the Tar Heels, and we’re sure the organization is happy to have him back. The two seasons prior to Brown’s return, the Tar Heels had a record of 3-9 in 2017 and 2-9 in 2018. On his return in 2019, the team went 7-6 but finished with a win in the Military Bowl. Then in 2020, the team got closer to the College Football Playoffs than they’ve been in years. Instead, they settled for the Orange Bowl, the first major bowl appearance since 1949.
Sure, it ended in a loss but Mack Brown is clearly the key to their success. They finished the season ranked 18th by the AP, and per BetOnline are expected to win around nine games. If there’s a coach in college football that can take a team that was 3-9 and turn them into 10-2, it’s Mack Brown.
The Competition They Faced In 2020 Was Tough
It’d be different if the Tar Heels finished with an 8-4 record by beating slouches. However, out of the four ranked teams they faced in the regular season, they only lost a single one. These wins were no easy feat, their most dominant one being against the No.10 Miami Hurricanes. North Carolina was able to defeat the Hurricanes 62-26. This win could be mostly credited to Michael Carter, who rushed for over three hundred yards.
Are Ten Games Too Many To Cover?
At this point, considering that Michael Carter has been drafted to the Jets, we’ll say yes. It’s much more likely that the Tar Heels will finish with a nine-win season. Still great, but just slightly short of the ten games they’d need to win according to BetOnline. They’ve got some tough competitors to face this year, including a rematch with the Miami Hurricanes.
