NFL BETTING PREVIEW – GREEN BAY PACKERS AT MINNESOTA VIKINGS 9/18

There is a lot happening around the Minnesota Vikings camp these days. The team managed to get by in its season opener, scoring on an interception return and a fumble return, but they did not put any offensive touchdowns up on the board. That has to be something of a concern, and that explains a lot about why a former #1 overall draft choice is “cramming” to learn the team’s playbook in preparation for the Sunday night NFL game, taking place against the NFC North rival Green Bay Packers at 8:30 PM ET. This will be the first regular season contest at US Bank Stadium, which is an indoor facility. BetAnySports customers can stay indoors themselves and place wagers on this game, even after the opening kickoff, utilizing the state-of-the-art software available through Live Betting Ultra.

Sam Bradford has had an eventful career, as he won the Heisman Trophy at Oklahoma, then became the top choice in the draft by the St. Louis Rams, won the rookie of the year award and almost led the Rams to division title in the depleted NFC West, then suffered not one, but TWO knee injuries that took him out of action for the better part of two seasons. He returned last year as the starting quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles, with mixed results.

But panic came over the Minnesota front office, apparently, when Teddy Bridgewater suffered a non-contact injury in a training camp workout, destroying his knee and obviously taking them out for the rest of the season. They called out to the Eagles, and made a very appetizing offer of a first-round and fourth round draft pick in exchange for Bradford, looking for some upside. And so, he is in Minneapolis, trying to learn the team’s offensive scheme as quickly as he can.

In the Sunday night NFL betting odds posted on this game by the people at BetAnySports, the Packers, who lost the 2015 season finale at Lambeau Field to the Vikings, and the division title with it, are actually the slight road favorite:

Green Bay Packers -2.5

Minnesota Vikings +2.5

Over 43 points -110

Under 43 points -110

Quite obviously head coach Mike Zimmer and offensive coordinator Norv Turner have been very confident about Bradford’s ability to pick up the offense, and they insist that he has put in a lot of overtime in studying the playbook. Zimmer as much as said that Bradford would have started last week if he had enough command of the offensive concepts involved. This week, he has not revealed exactly what he is going to do, except to say that people would find out on Sunday who was the starter. But the general consensus is that Bradford will make the start, and if he proves not to be ready, Shaun Hill is ready to step in

Hill has started for a few different NFL teams, but the truth is he has not had a lot of success in that role. He went 18 for 33 last week and failed to lead the Vikings into the end zone on offense. The result is that the Tennessee defense was able to stack up against Adrian Peterson, holding him to 31 yards on 19 carries. As BetAnySports patrons might be aware, Dick LeBeau designed the defensive game plan for the Titans last week, and there is another wily veteran coordinator doing that for the Packers this week, in Dom Capers. Last week, Green Bay held Jacksonville to just 48 rushing yards on 26 carries. And the result is a possibility that All-Pro linebacker Clay Matthews can alternate on the inside and the outside. One downer for the Packers is that cornerback Sam Shields, who suffered a concussion last week, has been declared out of action.

A very strong consideration here is the stadium itself. It is built in such a way, and with the kind of transparent roof that is unique to United States ballparks, that it really reverberates sound. The speculation is that it might prove to be the loudest stadium in the league, and that is something that Aaron Rodgers is going to have to deal with. The Packers just aren’t used to whatever noise level they are going to encounter, at least not at this venue.
