Temple vs. Wake Forest Game Preview

The last time the Owls played a game on this field was just a few weeks back when they hammered Navy 34-10 as one-point road underdogs to lay claim to the 2016 AAC title. This was Temple’s seventh win in a row as part of a straight-up record of 10-3 and it has now covered against the spread in its last 12 outings. The total stayed UNDER BetAnySports’ 60-point line against the Midshipmen and it has stayed UNDER in the Owls last five games. Temple is 7-1 ATS this season when closing as a favorite.

Temple was one of the best balanced teams in the nation this season with an offense that averaged 32.8 points a game complementing a defense that was ranked eighth in the country in points allowed (17.2). Senior quarterback Phillip Walker threw for 2,899 yards and 20 touchdowns to lead the Owls’ passing attack and the ground game was led by a trio of backs with a combined 2,071 rushing yards.

Wake Forest posted just one SU win in its last six games to barely qualify for a postseason bowl game at an even 6-6 on the year. It was able to cover in five of its last seven games to finish the regular season at 7-5 ATS. The total stayed UNDER BetAnySports’ closing 34.5-point line in the Demon Deacons’ 17-14 loss to Boston College on Nov. 26 and it has stayed UNDER in five of their last seven games. They do come into this matchup with a profitable 5-1 record ATS this season when closing as underdogs.

To make matters worse, Wake Forest has been embroiled in a controversy involving one of its ex-assistant coaches leaking game information to opponents. While this whole issue should not have a major impact on the outcome of this game, it is just another distraction that the Demon Deacons will have to deal with. On the field, they already have enough issues with an offense that was ranked near the bottom of Division IA (FBS) in scoring with just 19.3 points per game.
