LSU Tigers Win Total Prediction

Although they were the National Champions in 2019, the LSU Tigers disappointed in 2020. After finishing with a 5-5 record overall, the Tigers are in a tough position. They have talented players and good coaching but their defense is terrible. Last season, LSU surrendered 34.9 points per game. Over the offseason, they didn’t do much to improve that defense either, which is why sportsbooks don’t expect much.

Per BetOnline, the LSU season win picks total sits at 8.5, meaning they’d need nine wins to go over. On the surface, it might seem that the better bet is the under, considering they were 5-5 last season. However, we at Online Sports Bet want to give you the best college football predictions in 2021. The way we can do that is by going over some key points before giving you our LSU Football predictions 2021.

Offense Wins Games, Defense Wins Championships

It would seem as if the LSU organization believes that offense can do both. That theory will be put to the test this season. Nobody is questioning the offensive talent surrounding LSU, according to Head Coach Ed Orgeron, they even have “two championship quarterbacks”. The question is, how far will that offense take the Tigers?

The additions on offense are great, but clearly not enough to convince BetOnline to increase their win total above nine games. This just further confirms that LSU is missing a vital piece before they can return to a National Championship caliber team. But, if the sole purpose is to just win games, are the Tigers a good bet for the over?

Just How Bad Can The Defense Be This Year?

Take into account that regardless of how great an offense is, if the defense allows more points you’ll still lose. This is why it’s strange more attention didn’t get paid to the defense in the offseason. The team gave up nearly 35 points per game last season and lost their three best defenders.

Linebacker, Jabril Cox, a dominant force on the front seven. Tyler Shelvin, the defensive tackle that provided some run-stopping capabilities. Last but certainly not least, safety Jacoby Stevens, who was the best player in the secondary. These three players who were all at different levels of the defense are now in the NFL, and LSU will pay for not replacing them.

Over Or Under Nine Wins? Where Does LSU End?

Even with a star-studded offense, you need defense. The fact is, the Tigers could claim over nine wins but probably won’t visit the postseason. This could be something already known by the organization which is why they focused on offense in the offseason.

The reason why they should be able to grab nine wins is due to the schedule they have this year. This is a very favorable schedule for LSU aside from their games against Alabama and Texas A&M. It might be risky but your best bet here is taking the over, although they’ll likely only cover by half a game. When asked how many wins does LSU have this season, our guess is 9!
