The biggest game on the college football schedule this week is undoubtedly the No. 6 LSU Tigers paying a visit to the No. 9 Texas Longhorns. Despite being the road team in a top-10 clash, the Tigers are listed by BetAnySports as 5.5-point favorites to beat Texas.
LSU at Texas Game Overview
There was no hint of the Tigers looking ahead in their season opener against an overmatched Georgia Southern team. In a new offense designed to throw the ball more, quarterback Joe Burrow looked right at home, throwing for 278 yards and five touchdowns. While it came against an inferior opponent, it’s been a long time since LSU had a quarterback capable of putting up those kinds of numbers.
Meanwhile, the LSU defense was dominant, albeit against a team that plays the triple-option. The Tigers allowed less than 100 total yards and only eight first downs. Of course, the Bayou Bengals will have a more difficult challenge this week against the Texas offense, and they won’t have the home crowd behind them either
Much like LSU, the Longhorns didn’t appear to be looking ahead in a potentially tricky season opener against Louisiana Tech. The stats weren’t all that lopsided, but the Longhorns led 38-0 after three quarters before taking their foot off the gas and coasting to an easy win. Sam Ehlinger was at the top of his game, completing 28 of his 38 passes and tossing four touchdowns.
However, while the Texas defense did a good job of stopping the run, they allowed Louisiana Tech to throw for over 340 yards. A part of that is the fact that Louisiana Tech trailed all game and was forced to throw the ball. But the Longhorns also had just one sack despite the Bulldogs attempting over 50 passes. That could be one weakness to watch, considering how effective the LSU passing attack was last week.
LSU at Texas Free Game Prediction
The Longhorns will surely benefit from playing such a big game at home. But they also have an inexperienced defense, and they won’t have a distinct talent advantage against LSU the way they did against Louisiana Tech. If the Texas defense makes youthful mistakes, Burrow and the LSU offense will be able to capitalize.
Meanwhile, the Texas offense will be going up against one of the best defenses in the country. The Longhorns are also a little thin at running back at the moment, putting more pressure on Ehlinger. In the end, LSU will be a little better on both sides of the ball, and that’ll be enough to win by a touchdown and beat the spread.
