The Miami RedHawks finished last season with a record of 7-6 and had a conference record of 5-3. They ended the year in second place in the Mid-American East division and won their final game of the season against the North Texas Mean Green in the Frisco Football Classic. Heading into this season the RedHawks will have quarterback Brett Gabbert returning. Last season, Gabbert was able to pass for 2,648 yards and throw 26 touchdowns while throwing only 6 interceptions and had a near-perfect quarterback rating of 158.6. Gabbert can also do it on the ground as he rushed for 151 yards and one touchdown. He had a pretty impressive season and will try to improve this year as he’s heading into his junior season. Unfortunately for Gabbert, he will be without his stud wide receiver, Jack Sorenson, this year as he went to the NFL.  The RedHawks passed for 3,621 yards last year and threw for 32 touchdowns and 8 interceptions. They also rushed for just under 2,000 yards and scored 15 rushing touchdowns. They averaged 278 passing yards and 147 rushing yards per game. In this game, expect the RedHawks to have a big challenge as this Wildcats squad is very talented.

The Kentucky Wildcats finished last season with a record of 10-3 and a conference record of 5-3. They finished as the #14 ranked team in the AP Top 25 and won their final game against the Iowa Hawkeyes in the VRBO Citrus Bowl. They ended the year on a four-game winning streak and can add to it after this game against the RedHawks. Heading into this season, the committee has the Wildcats ranked 20th. They head into this season with quarterback, Will Levis. Levis is heading into his senior year and will look to lead the Wildcats to a top 10 ranked finish this season. Last season he threw for 2,826 passing yards and 24 touchdowns while throwing 13 interceptions and having a quarterback rating of 148.3. As a team, Kentucky passed for 2,933 yards and rushed for 2,594 yards on the season. They are a very balanced team and don’t rely on one single player to get it done. Unfortunately in this game, the Wildcats will be without their rushing leader from last season, running back Chris Rodriguez Jr. as he is out with an injury. Kavosiey Smoke will start for them and he was the second leading rusher for the team last year as he finished with 416 yards and 4 touchdowns. This Wildcats team is ready to get after it and put the Wildcats in the hunt for a top 10 ranked position.

This game will be controlled by the Wildcats and will have many scoring opportunities. The last time these two teams played the total points scored was 48. That was 9 years ago and both teams have gotten better. The RedHawks aren’t favored in this game but can surprise a lot of people as the quarterback is great at controlling the ball and limiting his turnovers. Expect both of these teams ready to play an intense football game as both of their seasons kick off Saturday night.

For our expert, Miami RedHawks vs Kentucky Wildcats game, pick the over on the 54.0 point total.
