The Kentucky Wildcats head into this week with a record of 1-0 after winning their home opener last week against the Miami Redhawks by a final score of 37-13. In that game, Kentucky recorded 353 total yards of offense and scored four touchdowns. To start the third quarter, the Wildcats returned a kick return for a touchdown. Return man Barion Brown returned the kick for 100 yards and gave the team a massive confidence boost coming out of halftime. Quarterback, Will Levis, threw for 303 passing yards and 3 touchdowns while throwing one interception. He was able to complete a chunk of his passing yards to wide receiver, Tayvion Robinson, who caught 6 passes for 136 yards and averaged 22.7 yards per reception. The Wildcats’ defense held the Redhawks to under 300 yards and was able to force one turnover. Impressively, the Redhawks had more time in possession of the ball and almost as many total yards of offense, but they only managed to score 13 points. The Wildcats defense did a great job at limiting the Redhawks scoring opportunities. Kentucky will need their defense to have a strong outing again and have Levis play a great game if they want to upset the Gators on the road.
The Florida Gators head into this game with a record of 1-0 after winning their home opener last week against the Utah Utes by a final score of 29-26. This was a huge win for the Gators as the Utes headed into that game ranked as the #7 team and the Gators were unranked. This game was neck and neck from the start until the end and the Gators were able to put this game away with a game-winning interception with less than 30 seconds left in the game. The Gators had 451 yards of total offense and received the majority of them from their rushing game. They rushed for 283 yards and had 4 rushing touchdowns. Quarterback Anthony Richardson absolutely stole the show as he had 168 passing yards and 106 rushing yards with 3 rushing touchdowns. The Utah defense had no chance at stopping Richardson in this game and he was the main reason the Gators were able to pull off the upset. Headed into this game against the Wildcats, expect Richardson and the Gators to find success rushing the ball.
I think the Gators will win this game as their run game will be too much for the Wildcats. Richardson offers the ability to sit in the pocket and complete a pass or scramble out of the pocket and pick up 9 yards on the ground as it is so difficult to tackle him. The Wildcats have a great defense and will need them to force Richardson to get the majority of his yards from the passing game as they will not be able to manage this game if he is able to scramble. This game is another primetime game for the Gators so expect the stadium and fans to be buzzing once again.
