Game of the Week: The Red River Rivalry
The Oklahoma Sooners and Texas Longhorns will face off on Saturday for their 119th all-time matchup. The 5-0 Sooners are ranked No. 12, while the 5-0 Longhorns come in at No. 3. Texas is favored, but Oklahoma looks good this season, averaging 47.4 points per game. But the Longhorns hold the No. 3 spot in the country for a reason. Texas is averaging 36.0 points per game, but in their last 3 games the Texas defense allowed just 3 touchdowns. The Longhorns defense is no joke, giving up less than 2 touchdowns per game to their opponents (12.8 points), and although Oklahoma has been cooking with fire on offense, the Sooners have yet to face a defense like this.
I’d take the Texas Longhorns to cover the 5 point spread in this one. The Sooners will give Texas a fight, but the Longhorns defense is too dominant for Oklahoma to overcome, and Texas will win the game by a touchdown. The Sooners have improved greatly over the last two years under head coach Brent Venables, but this is Oklahoma’s first real test, and it’s a tough one. Texas may be the most complete team in the country, proving their mettle after dousing the Crimson Tide and owning a top-25 Kansas team last week. Texas has tremendously talented players at the skill positions, and an excellent quarterback at the helm in Sophomore Quinn Ewers.
So for our (12)Oklahoma vs. (3)Texas expert pick, take the Texas Longhorns to Cover (-110) on Saturday.
