The Louisville Cardinals host the Florida State Seminoles on Friday, September 16th at 7:30 pm. This will be the third game both of these teams play this season. This will be the annual game between the Cardinals and Seminoles. The Cardinals are currently on a two-game winning streak against the Seminoles. Their past two victories have been by a final score of 31-23 (2021) and 48-16 (2020). The Seminoles head into this game after a bye week last week. The odds for this game are currently set at -135 Florida State, +115 Louisville, and the over/under is 57.0 according to Caesars Casino & Sportsbook. The Florida State Seminoles are currently 2-0 on the season. Should they win this week, they might find themselves being ranked according to the AP Poll, come the start of week 4. In their last game, the Seminoles beat the LSU Tigers by a final score of 24-23 in the Allstate Louisiana Kickoff. In that game, both teams did a great job at keeping the game close but that changed after the Seminoles jumped to a 14-point lead in the 4th quarter with 9 minutes left in the game. The Tigers would end up scoring twice and their last score came with no time left on the clock but their extra point attempt was blocked, and the Seminoles won the game. In that game, the Seminoles were the better team but seem to have gotten too comfortable when the Tigers were mounting their 14-point comeback. Seminoles quarterback Jordan Travis led the game in passing yards with 260 and was able to throw for 2 touchdowns. He also did a great job with ball security as he committed no turnovers. Travis was able to connect with wide receiver Ontaria Wilson for 7 receptions, 102 receiving yards, and 2 touchdowns. The Seminoles offense did a great job and so did their defense. They were able to force 2 LSU turnovers and hold the Tigers to a below 50% 3rd down completion rate. They had 4 sacks on the LSU quarterback and 2 came from defensive lineman Jared Verse. Verse’s presence and performance were essential for the Seminoles as he disrupted the Tigers’ momentum and quarterbacks pocket awareness. There’s a lot on the line for the Seminoles in this game, so expect them to be locked in and ready to end the Cardinals win streak.
The Louisville Cardinals head into this game with a record of 1-1 on the season. Last week they beat the UCF Knights by a final score of 20-14. This game will be the home opener for the Cardinals. Last week against the Knights, quarterback Malik Cunningham put the team on his shoulders. Cunningham threw for 201 yards and rushed for 121 yards and one touchdown. He had a way better performance against the Knights than he did in the Cardinals season opener against the Syracuse Orange. Against the Orange, he only had 186 yards of total offense and threw two interceptions, and lost one fumble. The Cardinals defense was able to support Cunningham’s great performance with a crucial stop late in the game. The Cardinals will need Cunningham to be a dual threat in this game against the Seminoles if they want to continue their winning streak.
In this game, I think the Seminoles will come out on top and end the Cardinals winning streak. Their team is coming off of a massive win against the Tigers in a game where the majority of the crowd were Tigers fans. Expect Verse to continue his defensive dominance and wreak havoc on the Cardinals offensive line. If the Cardinals win this game, it is due to the Seminoles inability to contain Cunningham.
For our expert pick, take the Seminoles -2.5.
