The Colorado Buffaloes finished last season with a record of 4-8 and were the fifth seed in the Pac-12 South. They had a conference record of 3-6 and ended their season on a loss against the Utah Utes. Last season, quarterback, Brandon Lewis, led the Buffaloes in passing yards as he threw for 1,540 yards, while also throwing for 10 touchdowns and 3 interceptions. Lewis is heading into his Sophomore year and will take a seat behind J.T. Shrout. Shrout, like Lewis, is a Sophomore and joined the Buffaloes during the transfer portal from the Tennessee Volunteers. Interestingly, the Buffaloes found as much success rushing the ball as they did passing. They rushed for 1,514 yards and had 12 rushing touchdowns. They averaged 126 rushing yards per game and averaged 3.5 rushing yards per attempt. Last season, running back, Jarek Broussard, led the Buffaloes in rushing yards as he rushed for 661 yards and had 2 touchdowns. However, he left for Michigan State during the transfer portal. Second to him in rushing yards last season was Alex Fontenot with 326. Fontenot was able to score 5 rushing touchdowns last season, which ranked as the most on the squad. Fontenot will get their starting role heading into the season and he might put up some impressive numbers as this is his Senior year. The Buffaloes are a well-balanced team in terms of how they gameplan, having similar passing and rushing statistics. In this game against the Horned Frogs, expect them to have a similar approach to the game.
The TCU Horned Frogs finished last season with a record of 5-7 and were tied for the seventh seed in the Big 12 The Horned Frogs had a conference record of 3-6 and ended their season on a loss to the Iowa State Cyclones. Last season, quarterback Max Duggan led the team in passing yards with 2,048 while throwing for 16 touchdowns and 6 interceptions. Duggan will be going into his Senior year and is expected to have a better year for the team and this could possibly lead them to a better record. Next, running back Zach Evans led the Horned Frogs in rushing yards after he rushed for 648. He decided to take his talents elsewhere and transferred to the Ole Miss Rebels during the portal. The starting running back position now belongs to Kendre Miller who was able to be the second leading rusher on the team last season after rushing for 623 yards and 7 touchdowns. Lastly, wide receiver Quentin Johnston led the team in receiving yards with 612 yards on 33 catches. He was also able to score 6 touchdowns and had an average of 18.5 yards per reception. In this game against the Buffaloes, expect the Horned Frogs to let Miller and Johnston feast and start their campaigns on the right foot.
In this game, the Horned Frogs should walk away with a victory. The Buffaloes have the opportunity to upset TCU at home with their new quarterback playing for them but I don’t think this will happen. The Horned Frogs will have their quarterback and wide receiver playing again for them this season and their chemistry will be hard to stop.
For our, TCU Horned Frogs vs Colorado Buffaloes prediction, take the over on the 55.5 total points scored in the game.
