Week 12 in college football can be thought of as the calm before the storm. Many of the top programs in the nation are taking a break this Saturday as heavy betting favorites ahead of next weekend’s traditional rivalry showdowns over the extended Thanksgiving Holiday. However, there are a few matchups on the board that can keep things interesting for sports bettors.

The biggest showdown on the board at OnlineSportsBet is Saturday’s slated 2:30 p.m. kickoff on NBC from South Bend between the ACC’s No. 13 Syracuse Orange and the No. 3 Notre Dame Fighting Irish. The Orange have made their way up the College Football Playoff rankings with a four-game winning streak to improve to 8-2 straight-up on the year. They have covered in their last three outings to improve to 7-3 against the spread.

Notre Dame is a perfect 10-0 SU with a much less reliable betting record of 5-4-1 ATS.

OnlineSportsBet has listed the Fighting Irish as nine-point home favorites for Saturday’s clash with the betting line for the total set at 61.5 points. Syracuse has been able to cover in eight of its last 10 road games, but it falls to just 2-9 SU in its last 11 games on the road. Notre Dame has won three of the last five games in this matchup SU, but the Orange have the slight 3-2 edge ATS. The total has gone OVER or ended as a PUSH in three of those past five meetings.

The only other head-to-head matchup between nationally ranked teams is a 8 p.m. start in the Big 12 between the No. 22 Iowa State Cyclones and No. 19 Texas on the Longhorn Network. Texas has been listed as a three-point home favorite with the total set at 50.5 points.

Iowa State has won its last five games SU while going 4-1 ATS after failing to cover in Saturday’s 28-14 home victory against Baylor as a 17-point favorite. It is now 6-3 both SU and ATS on the year. Texas improved to 7-3 SU and 4-5-1 ATS with a 41-34 road victory against Texas Tech in Week 11 as a two-point favorite.

Head-to-head in this Big 12 tilt, the Longhorns have won six of their last seven home games against the Cyclones SU, but Iowa State holds the 4-2 edge ATS in the last six meetings in Texas. The total has stayed UNDER in four of the last six meetings overall.
