The Cornhuskers are not having a great season sitting at 2-3 on the year. With their only wins over two group of 5 teams and 3 power 5 losses Nebraska looks for their first power 5 and conference win. The offense has been terrible with 122nd ranked scoring offense. The run game has been decent but the passing is one of the worst in the country ranked 127th. The defense has been pretty solid behind a top 15 rushing defense. They rank 60th in scoring defense and look to stop a bad Illinois offense.

Illinois has not looked good coming in at 2-3 with their only wins being close games over Toledo and FAU. They have been dominated in their 3 power 5 matchups. The offense hasn’t been great ranking outside the top 100 scoring but have been able to move the ball ranked within the top 85 in rushing and passing. The defense has been atrocious ranking outside the top 100 in almost every statistic. This team has not showed any promises but this is their best chance to get a power 5 win this season.

Take Nebraska in this game. Both these teams have very similar resumes through 5 games. This is the best chance either of these teams will have to get a conference win. The Nebraska offense has not been great but the defense has been solid and I expect them to be able to shut down this terrible Illinois offense. On the other side Illinois hasn’t shown anything on either side of the ball that makes me think they can win and cover this spread.
