The West Virginia Mountaineers head into this game with a record of 1-2. They won last week against the Towson Tigers by a final score of 65-7. This game was a rebound game for the Mountaineers after they started the season with a 0-2 record having lost to the Pittsburgh Panthers and the Kansas Jayhawks. In the game against the Tigers, quarterback JT Daniels threw for 174 yards and a touchdown. Pretty subtle performance from him. Back-up quarterbacks Will Crowder and Nicco Marchiol also joined in the fun and they each threw a touchdown. The Mountaineers threw for 308 passing yards and rushed for 316 yards.  Running back Tony Mathis Jr and CJ Donaldson led the team in rushing yards. Mathis Jr rushed for 104 yards and two touchdowns and averaged 6.1 yards per carry. Donaldson on the other hand rushed for 101 yards and had three touchdowns and averaged 11.2 yards per carry. The Mountaineers defense had a great outing as they forced an interception and held the Tigers to under 200 total yards of offense. This game and performance might be what the Mountaineers needed as they head into a tough matchup against the Hokies.

The Virginia Tech Hokies head into this game with a record of 2-1. They won their last game against the Wofford Terriers by a final score of 27-7. In that game, quarterback Grant Wells had an impressive performance as he threw for 314 yards and 2 touchdowns. Running back Jalen Holston helped out the Hokies offense as he rushed for 66 yards and a touchdown, averaging 4.1 yards per carry. The Hokies defense had a strong performance as they held the Terries to under 200 yards of total offense and were on the field for almost 10 minutes less than the offense.

This game will be low scoring and I think the Hokies should win. They will be playing at home and have had a much better start to their season and play better when they’re at home. Although the Mountaineers won when they played last year, I think they will continue to struggle against teams that are on the same level as them.

For our expert pick, take the Hokies +1.5.
