Game Prediction, Analysis and Breakdown

UCLA Bruins vs. Michigan State Spartans

Tommy D. back with Online Sports Bet, America’s favorite sports information channel.

It’s Thursday, March 18, UCLA Binsru vs. Michigan State Spartans College basketball picks and prediction report. This game tips off at 9:57 PM EST tonight at Mackey Arena, West Lafayette, Indiana, where UCLA and Michigan State are set to collide in an NCAA First Four matchup.

The Michigan State Spartans with a 15-12 SU score are finding themselves in unfamiliar territory, taking on the UCLA Bruins, who had a 17-9 SU record, on Thursday in a pick’em First Four game between these two No. 11 seeds in the East Region. The Spartans ended up under .500 in Big Ten play for the first time in head coach Tom Izzo’s career at 9-11, while the Bruins fell short of expectations in finishing as the No. 4 in the Pac-12.

Let’s get back to the UCLA vs. Michigan State NCAA Men’s basketball spread and predictions courtesy of Betonline, where MSU is 1.5 slight favorites with a total of 135.5.

The UCLA Bruins lost their senior Chris Smith, who has averaged 12.6 points and 6.4 rebounds per game to a torn ACL in his left knee at the beginning of 2021. However, the loss of Smith did not impact UCLA much, as the Bruins entered a season-high seven-game winning streak. But after the fifth consecutive victory, UCLA failed to cover the spread in seven straight games, losing three of them straight up over that period. Actually, they went 3-11 ATS in their last 14 games, closing with a four-game SU skid. And one fun fact, UCLA doesn’t have anyone on the roster who has played in March Madness.

The Spartans would likely miss the First Four if the Big Ten does not get two No. 1 seeds in the Michigan Wolverines and Illinois Fighting Illini. But, Michigan State has upset both Michigan and Illinois during a seven-game stretch lately, with the team going 5-2 SU and ATS, with four of those wins coming as an underdog.

The Spartans also beat the Indiana Hoosiers twice among those seven games and lost to the Maryland Terrapins twice by double digits in their last five.

The Big Ten was the best conference in the country this year, and Michigan State was a victim of that success with a poor league mark. But, the Spartans are also trending up, and the Bruins are heading the other way with a disappointing finish after a promising 12-2 start. So I’ll go with coach Izzo, who will make sure his players relish the opportunity and move on to the next round.
