Virginia vs. Louisville

virginia vs louisville

The Virginia Cavaliers will travel to the KFC Yum! Center to take on the Louisville Cardinals in an ACC matchup (7:00 p.m. ET, ESPNU). The Cavaliers will look to add on to their two-game winning streak. On Saturday, Virginia defeated the Duke Blue Devils in overtime 69-62. The Cavaliers have now won four of their last five games. Meanwhile, the Cardinals will look to snap their three-game losing streak in this one. On Saturday, Louisville lost to the Miami Hurricanes 93-85. The Cardinals have also now lost four of their last five games.

With an 19-4 record on the season and an 11-3 record in conference play, the Cavaliers are only 0.5 games back from first place in the ACC standings. Virginia has been solid this season both at home and on the road. The Cavaliers are 12-1 at home and 5-3 on the road. The Cavaliers have gotten production from their players this season. Virginia has four players averaging double digit points this season. Senior guard Armaan Franklin leads the team in points as he is averaging 12.7 points a game. They have also been led by their senior point guard Kihei Clark who is averaging 11.6 points and 5.9 assists (Which leads the team) a game this season.

In their win against Duke at home, Franklin led the way for Virginia finishing with 23 points. Clark also had a great game finishing with 16 points and 5 assists. Baugh did his best finishing the game with a double-double scoring 16 points and having 10 assists. In the win, Virginia struggled shooting the ball from deep as they shot 51.9% from the floor and 28.6% from the three-point line.

Offensively, the Cavaliers are averaging 70.0 points a game on the season. Defensively, Virginia has been solid only allowing teams to score an average of 60.4 points a game on the season. Look to see if the Cavaliers can continue their winning streak when they travel to Louisville.

With an 3-22 record on the season and an 1-13 record in conference play, the Cardinals are in last place in the ACC standings. Louisville has struggled from home this year as they 3-11 in the KFC Yum! Center.

Louisville has only really gotten production from one player this year. Senior guard El Ellis is leading the Cardinals this year as he leads the team in points and assists. Ellis is averaging 17.4 points and 4.8 assists a game this season. No one else on the team is averaging double digit points this season.

In their loss against Miami on the road, the Cardinals struggled to stop the Hurricanes offense. Louisville could not stop the guard play of Miami. Ellis did everything in his power to help the Cardinals pick up the win. He finished 33 points and 5 assists. In the loss, Louisville shot 57.9% from the floor and 43.5% from the three-point line.

Offensively, the Cardinals are averaging 64.0 points a game on the season. Defensively, Louisville has struggled allowing teams to score an average of 76.1 points a game on the season. Look to see if they can fix their defensive struggles when they welcome Virginia.

Virginia vs. Louisville all-time series

Virginia vs. Louisville Rematch: THE BIG PREVIEW - Streaking The Lawn

The Cavaliers and the Cardinals have played each other 23 times since both teams were classified as major schools. Virginia has dominated the series with a 19-4 record against Louisville. This is the first matchup between these two ACC rivals this year as they will also meet each other later on March 4th, to close out the season.

Trends to know

– Virginia is 2-5-1 ATS on the road this year.

– Louisville is 5-9 ATS at home this year.

– The Cavaliers are 7-6-1 ATS in conference play this year.

– The Cardinals are 7-7 ATS in conference play this year.

– The Cavaliers are 9-8-1 ATS following a win this year.

– The Cardinals are 8-13 ATS following a loss this year.

Prediction

I love Virginia here. I think they roll through Louisville in this game. The Cavalier’s defense is just too good for Louisville’s struggling offense. I think Armaan Franklin has a monster game in this one as he leads Virginia to the win. El Ellis tries his best for the Cardinals but falls short as they cannot keep up with the Cavaliers.

Prediction: Virginia Cavaliers cover the spread (-17.5).
