The Penn State Nittany Lions and the Texas A&M Aggies will play against each other at Wells Fargo Arena in the first round of the NCAA Tournament in the Midwest Region (9:55 p.m. ET, TBS). The Nittany Lions will look to bounce back after losing in the championship game of the Big Ten Tournament to the Purdue Boilermakers 67-65. Penn State is playing some great basketball and it feels like they have found their stride just in time for the tournament. The Nittany Lions have won four of their last five games. Meanwhile, the Aggies lost in the championship game of the SEC Tournament to the Alabama Crimson Tide 82-63. Texas A&M is a scary seventh seed in the tournament. Lots of people feel like they should have been seeded lower. They have also won four of their last five games. Look to see if they can make a run in the tournament and stun some teams late in the tournament.
Penn State Basketball
With an 22-13 record on the season and a 10-10 record in conference play, the Nittany Lions secured the tenth seed in the Big Ten Tournament. Penn State made an unbelievable run winning three games in the tournament. They first beat Illinois, then proceeded to beat Northwestern and a tough Indiana team. Unfortunately the Nittany Lions miraculous run came to an end in the finals to Purdue. Winning those three games before though secured their spot in the tournament. Penn State was selected as the tenth seed in the Midwest Region of the tournament.
The Nittany Lions have gotten production from a lot of their players this season. They have three players that are averaging double-digit points this season. Senior guard Jalen Pickett has been leading Penn State this year, as he leads the team in points, rebounds, and assists. Pickett is averaging 17.9 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 6.7 assists a game this season. They are also led by their senior guard Seth Lundy who is averaging 14.4 points a game this season.
In their loss against Purdue in the Big Ten Tournament, Lundy tried his best to give his team the win as he led the way finishing with 19 points and 8 rebounds. Pickett had a bad game, but still managed to put up 11 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists. He struggled as he shot 4-13 from the field and 0-3 from the three-point line. Camren Wynter had a great game scoring 14 points for the Nittany Lions. They just could not stop Purdue’s Zach Edey. In the loss, the Nittany Lions shot 43.1% from the floor and 30.4% from the three-point line.
Texas A&M Basketball
With a 25-9 record on the season and a 15-3 record in conference play, the Aggies finished in second in the SEC Standings. In the tournament they were the second seed as they won their first two games easily against the Arkansas Razorbacks and the Vanderbilt Commodores. In the championship game though they struggled against Alabama. Now, they are the seventh seed in the Midwest Region of the tournament. Look to see if they can make a run and upset some of their tough competition in their region such as Houston, Texas, and Xavier.
Texas A&M has gotten a lot of production from their players this season. They are led by sophomore guard Wade Taylor IV as he leads the team in points and assists. Taylor IV is averaging 16.5 points and 4.0 assists a game this season. They are also led by senior guard Tyrece Radford who is averaging 13.2 points a game this season.
In their loss against Alabama in the SEC Tournament, senior guard Dexter Dennis led the way finishing with 14 points and 5 rebounds. Taylor IV, also had a great game finishing with 13 points. Texas A&M just struggled stopping Alabama’s Brandon Miller. Also, the Aggies struggled shooting the ball in this game. In the loss, Texas A&M shot 29.7% from the floor and 33.3% from the three-point line.

I think this game is an instant classic. I think it’s going to be close and down to wire the whole way. I think the Aggies, but they do not cover the three points. Both of these teams are playing great basketball as of right now. I think Texas A&M is the better team with better players, but Penn State just showed that they can beat anybody. Their record ATS at a neutral site this year speaks for itself also. I think Texas A&M wins this game 82-80 against the Nittany Lions.
