The Rockets were able to solidify the first seed | OSB

Toledo vs. Michigan

TOLEDO VS MICHIGAN NCAAB

The Toledo Rockets will travel to the Crisler Center to take on the Michigan Wolverines in the first round of the NIT. (7:00 p.m. ET, ESPN2). The Rockets will look to bounce back after losing in the MAC Championship game against the Kent State Golden Flashes 93-78. Even though they were so close to making it to the big dance they need to forget about it because they have a huge first round matchup against Michigan. This team has been hot all season though especially as of late now winning four of their last five games. Meanwhile, the Wolverines got knocked out of the Big Ten Tournament in their first game as they lost to the Rutgers Scarlet Knights 62-50. They are the two seed in the NIT and looking to snap their three-game losing streak against Toledo and make a run in this tournament.

5 takeaways: Michigan basketball blows out Toledo | WolverinesWire

With an 27-7 record on the season and an 18-3 record in conference play, the Rockets were able to solidify the first seed in the MAC tournament. Toledo looked good as they won their first two games easily in the tournament. Unfortunately, they just ran into a red-hot Kent State team. Now they will have to travel on the road to take on Michigan. The Rockets this season have been great on the road as they are 10-3 as the away team. Lookout though as the atmosphere they’ve played at on the road in MAC games is nothing compared to the Crisler Center.

Toledo has been so dominant this season because they have four players that are averaging double-digit points on the season. They have been led by junior guard Rayj Dennis, who leads the team in points and assists. Dennis is averaging 19.7 points and 5.7 assists a game this season. Senior forward Setric Millner Jr. has also been a huge piece for the Rockets. He is averaging 16.0 points and 6.0 rebounds (Which leads the team) a game this season. You also, cannot forget about the 6’7” senior forward JT Shumate who is also averaging 16.0 points a game this season.

In their loss against Kent State in the tournament, Dennis and Millner did everything they possibly could as the both of them combined for 50 points, with each of them scoring 25. Millner finished with a double-double scoring 25 points and 10 rebounds. He shot 8-13 from the floor and 3-5 from the three-point line. Toledo just could not stop the Kent State offense as they did whatever they wanted. In the loss, Toledo shot 42.4% from the floor and 25.9% from the three-point line.

Offensively, the Rockets are averaging 85.6 points a game on the season. Defensively, Toledo has been allowing teams to score an average of 76.5 points a game on the season. Look to see if their offense will be too much for the Wolverines to handle.

Michigan Basketball

Michigan to play Toledo on Wednesday, per report - Maize n Brew

With an 17-15 record on the season and an 11-10 record in conference play, the Wolverines finished near the bottom half of the Big Ten standings. In the tournament they were the eighth seed as they took on the ninth seed Rutgers. In that game they were bounced, but still made it into the NIT as one the two seeds. They will host Toledo in the first round. The Wolverines have been great at home this year as they are 12-4 in the Crisler Center. Look to see if they can continue their dominance at home and make a run in the tournament.

Michigan has gotten production from a lot of their players this year. Mostly by their junior center Hunter Dickinson who leads the team in points and rebounds. Dickinson is averaging 18.4 points and 9.0 rebounds a game this season. Freshman guard Jett Howard has been great for the Wolverines as well averaging 14.2 points a game. Sophomore guard Kobe Bufkin has also been phenomenal averaging 13.7 points a game this season.

In their loss against Rutgers in the Big Ten Tournament, no on really contributed besides Dickinson who was the only one on the team to score double-digit points with 24. He also had 7 rebounds in the game. In the loss, Michigan shot 34.8% from the floor and 33.3% the three-point line.

Offensively, the Wolverines are averaging 73.1 points a game on the season. Defensively, Michigan has been allowing teams to score an average of 69.4 points a game on the season. Look to see if they can keep shutdown the Hoyas at home.

Toledo vs. Michigan Prediction

I love Michigan here I think they cover easily in this game. I just think the Wolverines have played better teams all season long. I think Toledo will get tested on the road in a rowdy Crisler Center. I think once Michigan gets a little momentum behind the rowdy crowd at the Crisler Center things will go quickly south for the Rockets. I think Hunter Dickinson has a huge game and leads Michigan to the victory. The Wolverines win 84-74 against the Rockets.

Toledo vs. Michigan: The Michigan Wolverines cover the spread (-7.5).
