Marquette vs. Creighton

Marquette vs. Creighton

The Marquette Golden Eagles will travel to the CHI Health Center Omaha to take on the Creighton Bluejays in a Big East Conference matchup (8:30 p.m. ET, FS1). The Golden Eagles will look to add onto their two-game winning streak in this one. On Wednesday, Marquette picked up a huge 69-68 win against the Xavier Musketeers. The Golden Eagles have now won four of their last five games. Meanwhile, the Bluejays bounced back with a 77-67 win on Saturday over the St. John’s Red Storm after their double overtime 94-86 loss on Valentines day against the Providence Friars. Creighton has now won four of their last five games.

With a 21-6 record on the season and a 13-3 record in conference play, Marquette is in first place of the Big East standings. They need this win against Creighton as three teams in the Big East are just 1 game back of them. Luckily, the Golden Eagles have been good on the road this year as they are 6-4 as the away team. Look to see if they can keep their top spot in the Big East and pick up a massive road win in this game.

Marquette has gotten contribution from a lot of their players this year as four players on their team are averaging double-digit points a game this season. Their main scorer has been sophomore guard Kam Jones, who leads the team in points averaging 14.9 a game this season. Also, junior forward Olivier-Maxence Prosper has been a key piece for Marquette averaging 12.7 points a game.

In their win against Xavier at home, sophomore guard Stevie Mitchell led the way finishing with 17 points. Sophomore forward Oso Ighodaro finished the game with 14 points and 9 rebounds. Sophomore guard Tyler Kolek also had a great game doing everything finishing with 15 points, 8 rebounds, and 5 assists. With 1 second left on the clock Prosper made a dunk to give the Golden Eagles the 69-68 win. In the win, Marquette shot 38.2% from the floor and 22.7% from the three-point line.

With a 18-9 record on the season and a 12-4 record in conference play, Creighton is 1 game back of first place in the Big East standings. The Bluejays need a win at home in this game to jump up first place in the Big East standings. Good thing they have been nearly unbeatable at home this season as they are 12-1 at the CHI Health Center Omaha. Look to see if they can keep up their 8-game home winning streak against Marquette in this one.

Creighton has gotten contribution from a lot of their players this year as five players on their team are averaging double-digit points a game this season. Their main scorer has been junior center Ryan Kalkbrenner, who leads the team in points averaging 14.8 a game this season. Also, sophomore guard Trey Alexander has been a key piece for Creighton this season averaging 13.4 points a game. The Bluejays are a dangerous team with how many scorers they have. Anyone on this team can take over a game at any time.

In their win against St. John’s on the road, sophomore guard Ryan Nembhard led the way finishing with 16 points, 4 rebounds, and 5 assists. Sophomore forward Arthur Kaluma also had a great game finishing with 12 points and 8 rebounds. Kaluma hit 3 straight three-pointers down the stretch to put the game away for the Bluejays. In the win Creighton shot 38.7% from the floor and 39.4% from the three-point line.

Prediction

I love Marquette in this game especially getting +5.5 points. The Golden Eagles have been great all season ATS on the road and in Big East Conference play. I think Marquette is playing with extreme confidence right now, especially after that game-winning dunk to beat Xavier. The Golden Eagles also, have the guard and big play to matchup well against Creighton and keep it close. Marquette also has the better bench that they can rely on to play some key minutes in this game. I think Creighton wins the game and keeps their home streak alive, but Marquette keeps it within 5 points.

Prediction: The Marquette Golden Eagles cover the spread (+5.5).
