Morehead State vs. Clemson 

The Morehead State Eagles will travel to the Littlejohn to take on the Clemson Tigers in the first round of the NIT. (7:00 p.m. ET, ESPN+). The Eagles will look to bounce back after losing in the OVC Championship semifinal against Southeast Missouri State 65-58. Going into the tournament Morehead State was the number one seed and red-hot winning 5 straight games. The Eagles will need to regroup and regain some momentum. This is a very good basketball team that won four of their last five games. Meanwhile, the Tigers got knocked out of the ACC Tournament in the semifinal game when they lost to the Virginia Cavaliers 76-56. Look to see if can turn things around and make a run in the NIT.

Morehead State Basketball

With an 21-11 record on the season and an 14-4 record in conference play, the Eagles were able to secure the number one seed in the OVC Tournament. Morehead State didn’t perform in the tournament though losing their first game against the Southeast Missouri State RedHawks 65-58. The RedHawks would end up winning the OVC tournament. Now, the Eagles will have to travel on the road to take on Clemson. The Eagles this season have been shaky on the road as they are 4-6 as the away team. Look to see if they can fix their road play against the Tigers.

Morehead State has gotten production from a lot of their players this season. They have three players that are averaging double-digit points this season. Senior guard Mark Freeman has been leading the Eagles this year, as he leads the team in points and assists. Freeman is averaging 15.0 points and 3.8 assists a game this season. They are also, led by their senior forward Alex Gross who is averaging 11.9 points and 7.4 rebounds (Which leads the team) a game this season.

In their loss against Southeast Missouri State RedHawks in the OVC Tournament, Freeman tried his best to give his team the win as he led the way finishing with 21 points. He struggled from deep as he shot 1-6 from the three-point line. Sophomore guard Drew Thelwell joined Freeman as the only two players for the Eagles to score double-digit points finishing with 13 points and 5 rebounds. In the loss, the Eagles shot 36.4% from the floor and 31.6% from the three-point line.

Clemson Basketball

With an 23-10 record on the season and an 14-6 record in conference play, the Tigers finished in third in the SEC Standings. In the tournament they were the third seed as they won their first game easily against the NC State Wolfpack 80-54. In the next round though they struggled against Virginia and were bounced from the tournament ruining their chances of making it to the big dance. Now, they will host Morehead State in the first round. The Tigers have been nearly unbeatable at home this year as they are 15-1 in the Littlejohn Coliseum. Look to see if they can continue their dominance at home and make a run in the tournament.

Clemson has gotten a lot of production their players this season. They are led by senior forward Hunter Tyson as he leads the team in points and rebounds. Tyson is averaging 15.5 points and 9.5 rebounds a game this season. They are also led by junior center PJ Hall who is averaging 15.4 points a game this season. Don’t forget about junior guard Chase Hunter, who leads the team in assists as he is averaging 13.6 points and 4.6 assists a game this season.

 In their loss against Virginia in the ACC Tournament, Tyson led the way finishing with 15 points and 6 rebounds. Hall also had a great game finishing with a double-double scoring 13 points and 10 rebounds. Their bench just struggled as the Tigers only had 7 total bench points. In the loss, Clemson shot 35.8% from the floor and 30.4% from the three-point line.

Once the Tigers get a little momentum and the crowd starts going crazy that is when the Eagles shutdown and you could see Clemson make a big run. Clemson wins this game 75-53 against Morehead State.
