MIAMI HURRICANES VS. VILLANOVA WILDCATS ODDS & PREVIEW
If you’re the Miami Hurricanes, you are hoping to establish a basketball tradition that just doesn’t exist yet. For period of time, Miami was the only Division I college football school that didn’t have a basketball program. But they have been back for little more than 30 years, although this is only the third time they have advanced of the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament. Now they hope to go one step further, with possibly their best team ever, as they lock horns with the Villanova Wildcats in action that will take place in Louisville at the KFC Yum Center at 7:10 PM ET on CBS. BetAnySports customers can watch the action live and place wagers in real time using the considerable facilities of Live Betting Extra.
Miami (27-7 straight-up, 19-14 ATS) is the third seed in the region, and one of six teams from the Atlantic Coast Conference to make it this far. They were expected to encounter a roadblock last time out against Wichita State, which had come into the game with two impressive victories in a row, along with a reputation as a team that overachieved in this event. But Miami shut the Shockers down to no small degree, holding them to just 34% shooting and trucking up 55% themselves. The result was a 65-57 victory that was further reaffirmation of head coach Jim Larranaga’s “Scramble” defense, which uses a variety of presses and traps all over the court, depending on the situation.
In the NCAA Tournament odds posted on this game by the folks at BetAnySports, Miami is catching some points:
Villanova Wildcats -4
Miami Hurricanes +4
Over 140 points -110
Under 140 points -110
When it comes to experience in the backcourt, it was tough to beat Wichita State’s combination of Fred Van Vleet and Ron Baker, but these two tandems are probably right up there. Villanova has one of the best players anywhere in Josh Hart, who cannot only shoot the basketball but can also hit the boards as well, as evidenced by 6.9 rebounds per game. His partner in crime is Ryan Acidiacono, who is razor sharp with the ball. It is highly unusual in college hoops for anyone to have 3-to-1 assist-turnover ratio, but this guy does.
But Miami feels it can go step-for-step with them, and for good reason. BetAnySports patrons know that they have a lot of experience back there, with 5-11 dynamo Angel Rodriguez leading the attack. And 6-5 Sheldon McClellan (16 ppg, 50% FG’s) is certainly a match for Hart. Throw in Davon Reed (11.2 ppg, 47% FG’s), who is 6-6, and you have a three-man crew that is tough for other teams to handle, for a variety of reasons.
Basketball bettors have to like what Miami accomplished during the regular season, as they stared down a lot of teams who were formidable. Wins over the likes of Butler, Utah, Louisville, Virginia (a #1 seed), Duke, Pittsburgh, Florida, Syracuse (also in the Sweet 16) and Notre Dame (twice) are an indication that these guys can play with anybody. Now they get to go where no Hurricanes have charted before.
