Ok, let’s get to our Free College Basketball Picks.
It’s a battle of two Top 25 teams tonight as Number 11 Iowa State hosts Number 25 Texas Tech in a Big 12 match-up and this should be a defensive struggle as these are the two of the top defensive teams in the conference.
The Cyclones opened the season with 12 straight wins, but dropped their first game of the season on New Year’s Day to Number 1 ranked Baylor, 77-72, at home as a 7-point underdog to fall to 12-1. Of course, there is no shame in losing to the best team in the country and the defending NCAA champs at home, especially when you consider that Iowa State missed 13 out of its 14 three-point shot attempts. That long range percentage figures to be much better tonight as they take on a Texas Tech team that enters 10-2, with the 10 wins coming against a soft schedule of opponents and the two losses coming to quality programs like Gonzaga and Providence.
The issue for Texas Tech is two-fold entering tonight’s game. First off, they will most likely be without leading scorer Terrence Shannon Jr., who has been battling nagging back spasms all season long. Secondly, since the team’s home opener with Oklahoma State was postponed due to COVID, the Red Raiders haven’t played a game since Dec. 28, and heading into Ames, Iowa with some rust on the tires is no way to face a pissed off Cyclones team at home coming off its first loss of the season.
Texas Tech is just 1-8 ATS in its last nine road games and in the Cyclones’ last 28 games against teams with a winning record they are a money eating 8-20 at the betting window.
So, for our NCAA Basketball Texas Tech vs Iowa Stats picks, let’s take the Cyclones minus the short number as they earn a big win in front of a jacked up home crowd.
