The Gonzaga Bulldogs and the UCLA Bruins will play against each other at the T-Mobile Arena in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament in the West Region (9:45 p.m. ET, CBS). The Bulldogs will look to keep their run alive as they survived against the TCU Horned Frogs in a close game 84-81 in the second round. Gonzaga has the team to continue their run in this tourney and take down this UCLA team. Meanwhile, the Bruins also had a close game in the second round as they survived against the Northwestern Wildcats 68-63. Lots of people think that whoever wins this game will win this region, as these are the best two teams remaining in the West Region.
Gonzaga Basketball
With a 30-5 record on the season and a 14-2 record in conference play, the Bulldogs secured the third seed in the NCAA Tournament. They automatically punched their ticket into the dance by winning the WCC tournament. Gonzaga has been one of the better teams this year and it has showed so far knocking off the Grand Canyon Antelopes 82-70 in the first round and the TCU Horned Frogs 84-81 in the second round. 72-62 in the first round. Now, Gonzaga is in the Sweet 16 with a chance to make it into the Elite 8, but they have a scary UCLA team in front of them.
The Bulldogs have gotten production from a lot of their players this season. They have four players that are averaging double-digit points this season. Senior forward Drew Timme has been leading Gonzaga this year, as he leads the team in points, rebounds, and assists. Timme is averaging 21.1 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 3.2 assists a game this season. Junior guard Julian Strawther is averaging 15.3 points and 6.1 rebounds a game this season. Do not forget about their other big man senior forward Anton Watson, who is averaging 11.3 points and 6.1 assists a game this season.
In their win against TCU in the second round, Timme led the way finishing with 28 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 assists. Senior guard Rasir Bolton also had a monster game finishing with 17 points. Strawther finished with 10 points and 9 rebounds. In the win, the Bulldogs shot 44.8% from the floor and 32.0% from the three-point line.
UCLA Basketball
With a 31-5 record on the season and an 18-2 record in conference play, the Bruins were selected as the second seed in the West Region of the NCAA Tournament. Even though they lost in the championship game of the PAC-12 Tournament to the Arizona Wildcats. They had enough big wins during the season to get them the second seed. In the first round, the Bruins easily cruised through the UNC Asheville Bulldogs 86-53. Next, they had a big matchup against Northwestern and prevailed winning 68-63. Now they are in the Sweet-16 and are looking to win the whole thing.
UCLA has gotten a lot of production from their players this season. They are led by senior guard Jaime Jaquez Jr. as he leads the team in points and rebounds. Jaquez Jr. is averaging 17.5 points and 8.1 rebounds a game this season. They are also led by senior guard Tyger Campbell, who is averaging 13.4 points and 4.9 assists (Which leads the team) a game this season.
In their win against Northwestern in the second round, Jaquez Jr. led the way finishing with 24 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 assists. Freshman guard Amari Bailey stepped up finishing with 14 points, 4 rebounds, and 6 assists. Campbell finished with 12 points and 7 assists. In the win, UCLA shot 50.0% from the floor and 40.0% from the three-point line.
