Florida and Kentucky will be facing off here in a massive game for a Florida team that is looking to keep their tourney chances alive and a Kentucky team that is trying to stay off the bubble. The Gators have just not had a great season. They are 14-13 overall and 7-7 in the SEC. They also just lost their big man Colin Castleton for what seems like the season to a broken hand. He was huge for the Gators and in their first game without him they were destroyed by Arkansas 84-65. He was averaging 16 points and 7.7 rebounds on the season. The Gators have now lost four of their last five games. This includes a loss to this Kentucky team a couple of weeks ago. They have been pretty average in terms of betting this season as they are 13-14 ATS.
Kentucky is usually one of the best teams in the nation but they haven’t been that this year. They are coming off of a huge Quad 1 win over Tennessee that pushed them off of the NCAA tournament bubble. This moved them to 18-9 on the season. They are 9-5 in conference play. That may have been the spark they needed to get hot this season and they have now won two games in a row coming into this matchup with Florida. They are led by the reigning Wooden Player of the Year in Oscar Tshiebwe. The senior is averaging 15.8 points per game and he also leads the NCAA in rebounds per game at 13. Kentucky is hoping that he can lead them to this year’s tournament and beyond.
I love Kentucky in this one. I think they are catching Florida in a great spot in this one. Florida is reeling right now having lost four of five and their best big man in Castleton. A huge thing in this one is that Tshiebwe should feast with Castleton out. Historically, Tshiebwe has struggled mightily against Castleton and Castleton had previously dominated him. In the last three matchups between them Castleton was averaging 22 points and 8.7 rebounds. Tshiebwe has been shut down as in their last matchup two weeks ago he only put up four points and 2/14 shooting. Even with Tshiebwe struggling that bad, Kentucky still pulled out the win by five points. With Castleton out of the game, Tshiebwe should provide a huge boost to a Kentucky team that already didn’t really need him to beat Florida. Especially when Tshiebwe has put up 15 or more points in three straight games. I think Kentucky pulls away early in this one.
Final Score Prediction: Kentucky 78-63
