Matchup: Creighton Bluejays vs. Tennessee Volunteers

March Madness continues this Friday with a Sweet 16 matchup between 3 seed Creighton and 2 seed Tennessee. The Bluejays and Volunteers are incredibly even and this regional semifinal has all the makings of a Sweet 16 classic. Creighton is technically the underdog, but with oddsmakers setting the spread at just 2.5 points the game could go either way. Tennessee is looking to get back to the Elite Eight for the first time since 2010, while Creighton is hoping to make their 2nd-straight Elite Eight appearance. Tennessee and Creighton played their first game in 1937, and 87 years later, the Bluejays and Volunteers will play their second matchup of all-time in the Sweet 16 on Friday.

Creighton vs. Tennessee Game Predictions

It’s going to be a close one, but I’m going with the Tennessee Volunteers over the  Creighton Bluejays in the Sweet 16. Tennessee is due for a deep tournament run, and their time is now. Led by a starting lineup of upperclassmen, the Vols are primed and ready to make their first Elite Eight appearance in 14 years. Senior Guard Dalton Knecht is carrying Tennessee with 20.5 points per game in the tournament, and after holding Texas to just 58 points in their 2nd Round matchup, the Vols defense is looking like a tough nut to crack.

Creighton narrowly escaped with a win in the 2nd Round matchup with 11 seed Oregon, taking the Ducks to double overtime in a game where the Bluejays shot 39 Three’s. Creighton tends to live by the Three, but that also means they die by the Three. During the regular season, Creighton shot a decent 36.6% from beyond the arc, but Tennessee limited opponents to a 30.9% Three-point percentage. The Vols know how to defend the arc, which doesn’t bode well for the Creighton Bluejays, so I recommend taking Tennessee to stay on the road to the Final Four.

In summary, here are my picks for Creighton vs. Tennessee Sweet 16 matchup:

  • Moneyline Pick: Tennessee Volunteers (-150)

If you take Tennessee’s Moneyline (-150): You risk $150 to win $100, for a total payout of $250, if Tennessee wins straight up.

  • ATS Pick: Tennessee Volunteers (-2.5)

If you take Tennessee to Cover the -2.5 Spread (-110): You risk $110 to win $100, for a total payout of $210, if Tennessee wins the game by at least 3 points.

  • O/U Pick: Under (144)

If you take the Under on 144 total points (-110): You risk $110 to win $100, for a total payout of $210, if Creighton and Tennessee combine for less than 144 points.
