This is a matchup of the two top teams in the WCC as the Gaels are on top with a 9-0 record in conference play.
They are currently the 18th ranked team in the country according to the AP Men’s Poll as they have won 11 games in a row.
In their last game they beat San Francisco 68-59 as they got contribution from everyone as 4 of their 5 starters scored double-digit points. Senior Alex Ducas led the way in the win with 18 points and 8 rebounds.
Meanwhile, even though Gonzaga hasn’t been the same dominant Gonzaga in the years past they are still dangerous.
They are led by Senior and potential John R. Wooden Award Winner Drew Timme who leads the team in points, rebounds, and assists.
The Bulldogs are 8-1 in conference play, as their only loss came to Loyola Marymount on a go-ahead runner with 13 seconds left. In their last game they beat Santa Clara 88-70. In the win Timme finished with a double-double scoring 15 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Senior Anton Watson finished perfect from the floor going 8-8 as he was the leading scorer for the Bulldogs with 18 points.
I love Saint Mary’s in this spot at -3.5. It seems like every year Gonzaga struggles to play at Saint Mary’s.
Also, this year the Gaels have been great ATS with a 15-8 record. Gonzaga not so much as they are 7-14-1 ATS.
I think Saint Mary’s elite defense with their home crowd behind them becomes an issue for the Bulldogs. Plus, the Gaels have the size and experience on this team to keep up with Timme and Watson.
