MLS Preview and Prediction – Montreal Impact vs Orlando City – Saturday, March 28
Two teams with a shaky start of the season will meet this Saturday, March 28, when the Montreal Impact play hosts to Brazilian playmaker Kaká and his new Orlando City team at the Olympic Stadium, in Montreal, Quebec.
Against the Vancouver Whitecaps last Saturday, Orlando City SC lost for the first time in their MLS history.
After two away games and only one point in the MLS this season, the Montreal Impact face the newcomers Orlando City SC, eager to get things on track and grab some very important three points. The Impact reached a scoreless draw at the New England Revolution last Saturday, in a game where the result was probably better than the overall performance. With a solid defensive unit, Montreal’s major concerns are on the offensive side of the ball, as the team is yet to score a goal in the league this season. The lack of a star striker up front, a valid substitute for Marco Di Vaio, capable of not only scoring goals but also creating chances for the attacking midfielders is substantially influencing their game. In their first two outings, Montreal could only produce 6 shots on target, an unsatisfactory production for a team that certainly has playoff ambitions.
Despite controlling much of the game and the possession of the ball against the Vancouver Whitecaps last weekend at Citrus Bowl, Orlando City failed to do the most important: score goals. And to make things worse, conceding a goal in the last seconds of the game meant nothing less than experiencing defeat for the first time in their MLS history. International duties combined with an early season injury bug have taken their toll on this Orlando City team. A total of seven players were called up for their respective national sides and another five are still recovering from injuries, a situation that will make it very difficult for coach Adrian Heath to have a starting eleven capable of seriously discussing the result in Montreal. This scenario means that some of the players that have spent the beginning of the season on the bench will now have the opportunity to step up and prove themselves worthy of trust.

This will be Montreal Impact’s first home game of the season and the team will want to score some goals and get a much needed win. Orlando City could not have had a much harder assignment in trying to rebound from its first defeat, with coach Adrian Heath being forced to make several adjustments to get the best 11 players on the field next Saturday. Despite a clear improvement on almost every sector of the field when compared to last year’s squad, the Montreal Impact still haven’t found a striker with the quality and goal scoring abilities of Di Vaio. Given the fact that neither of these two sides appears capable of scoring many goals, we are picking this game to be under 2, 2½ goals.
Our Prediction: Under 2, 2½
