NFL Betting Preview Dallas Cowboys at Green Bay Packers 10/16
The Dallas Cowboys have themselves a quarterback controversy, but it appears that it’s for all the right reasons. Usually these kinds of things happen when one quarterback is playing poorly, but that’s not the case here, as the Cowboys are sailing along with a 4-1 record coming into Sunday’s matchup against the Green Bay Packers (3-1). This game is set to begin at 4:25 PM ET at Lambeau Field, and BetAnySports customers will have the opportunity to bet on the game as it is actually happening, using the state-of-the-art software available through Live Betting Ultra.
They Cowboys are without quarterback Tony Romo, and they have been playing lately without wide receiver Dez Bryant. Usually this would be known as a death knell for them, and indeed as these two players missed a lot of time last season, fortunes plummeted. But they got a little help, to say the least, this season. Dallas took running back Ezekiel Elliott of Ohio State in the first round of the draft, and then, three rounds later, picked quarterback Dak Prescott, who was not considered ready for the NFL according to many scouts. Well, these two guys have been shining stars, to say the least. One of them (Elliott) will certainly have a job for the entire season if his health holds out. But the situation with Prescott is a little murky right now, because statements previously made by Jerry Jones would seem to indicate that when Romo is healthy, he is coming back to the lineup as the starter.
In the football betting odds posted on this game by the people at BetAnySports, the Packers are laying points as the home team:
Over 47.5 points -110
Under 47.5 points -110
Prescott did not have a lot of time for indoctrination, as the team looked to him as the fill-in for Romo, as there was no veteran presence around at the time (the team has since signed Mark Sanchez to a contract). All Prescott has done his engineer four straight victories in which this team has scored 110 points, read 16 drives of ten plays or more, which leads the league, and complete 69% of his passes with no interceptions. It’s pretty hard to unseat a guy like that, even if a multiple-Pro Bowler like Romo is ready to go.
As far as Elliott is concerned, well, he leads the league in rushing yards, with 546. And he has made everybody forget about DeMarco Murray, who led the NFL in rushing only two seasons ago. And BetAnySports patrons have seen that another star has emerged – slot receiver Cole Beasley leads this team in receiving, with 332 yards, so even if Bryant comes back to the lineup, as he expects to on Sunday, he may not be Prescott’s #1 option. What will that do to the guy’s ego?
The Packers’ situation in the secondary may be somewhat inviting. They have had to shuffle around their cornerbacks, leavingLaDarius Gunter in the unenviable position of having to deal with Odell Beckham last Monday night against the Giants. But Eli Manning did relatively little damage against them, and we know that Green Bay is going to give Elliott a harder time than usual, because it leads the league in rushing defense, allowing only 43 yards a game and a minuscule two yards per carry.
