NFL Betting Preview 10/13 Pittsburgh Steelers at Miami Dolphins
When you take a look at this game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Miami Dolphins, it appears very much like a matchup between teams that are going in opposite directions. Pittsburgh has been getting healthier on offense, and of course they have a guy who can really improvise in quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. Sure, they had a hiccup against the Philadelphia Eagles, but they have actually looked pretty good otherwise. The Dolphins have been murder on their fans, with very little to show for it in the way of offense, and an embarrassing effort last week on the defensive end. Make no mistake about it – this is a team the whole lot of problems. But, playing at home, can they be inspired to put up a fight? This game will get underway at 1 PM ET at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, and while it is being televised live on CBS on a regional basis, BetAnySports customers have the opportunity to place their wagers on it in real time, using the extraordinary software provided through Live Betting Ultra.
The Steelers were humiliated a couple of weeks ago by the Philadelphia Eagles, but they came roaring back with a big win over the Kansas City Chiefs, and then pulled away in the fourth quarter against the New York Jets last week. Roethlisberger completed 34 out of 47 passes for 380 yards, while the defense held the Jets to just 244 total yards in a 31-13 victory. Of course, the Steelers took advantage of the absence of Darrelle Revis from the New York lineup, and Big Ben hit Sammie Coates for a 72-yard touchdown pass. It is important to get other receivers aside from Antonio Brown involved in the attack, and so what Coates was able to do was just what the doctor ordered.
In the pro football betting odds posted on this game by the folks at BetAnySports, the Steelers are the road favorites:
It has been a frustrating experience for first-year head coach Adam Gase of the Dolphins, as he tries to deal with the hand he was dealt in South Florida. That includes fifth-year quarterback Ryan Tannehill, toward whom fans are running out of patience. Tannehill has a reputation as a quarterback with a lot of shortcomings, including waiting too long before making decisions, and as a result he gets sacked a lot. It only exacerbates the situation when he does not have his full complement of healthy offensive lineman, as was the case last week against the Tennessee Titans, when left tackle Branden Albert and left guard Laremy Tunsil were late scratches. Tannehill got sacked six times, and he really doesn’t have the kind of running game that can keep an opposing defense honest. Gaze is still looking for that go-to back, as Arian Foster has been dealing with injuries, as usual.
BetAnySports patrons also noticed that the Dolphins could simply not keep the Titans off the field, and this represents another problem. Tennessee had 235 rushing yards, and that should not happen against a defensive line that is pulling down the kind of salaries Miami’s guys are. When you consider the presence of Ndomukong Suh, Mario Williams and Cameron Wake, they should be both snuffing out the run and pressuring opposing passers, and they did neither of those things last week.
As a result, Miami held the ball for only 23 minutes, had just eight first downs, 200 total yards and got off only 35 snaps in the game, which, if you’re not very familiar with the NFL, is pitiful. So is there too much in the way of problems to correct so quickly? Well, we can’t answer that completely, but we can tell you that Tannehill has thrown seven interceptions over the last four games and that the Dolphins have covered only five of their last 18 home games.
