MLB Odds & Preview Seattle Mariners at LA Angels 8/15

The Seattle Mariners are a team that is currently driving toward a playoff spot. The Los Angeles Angels are a team of players who will be driving themselves to the golf course come October. They will tangle at the “Big A” in Anaheim on Monday night, in a game that is set to begin at 10:05 PM ET. And remember that if you are a BetAnySports customer, you will have the opportunity to continue placing wagers after the game has started, when you take advantage of what is available from the Live Betting Ultra software.

Seattle was hot at the start of the season, and led the American League West in May. Then they cooled down considerably. And now they are hot once again for manager Scott Servais, with eight victories in their last nine games. They swept these Angels back at Safeco Field in the first week of August, and did the same with the Detroit TIgers, and took two out of three at Oakland over the weekend to bring their road record to 29-29. Overall, they are 62-54, which puts them 5.5 games behind the Texas Rangers in the division, and they have a very real chance at a wild card spot, as they only a couple of games behind the Boston Red Sox for that #2 spot.

For the Angels, it is obviously a much different story. This team has lost ten games in a row, and over their last seven contests they have scored a single run four times. Obviously these are not the best of times for revered skipper Mike Scioscia.

The M’s turn to their ace, Felix Hernandez (6-4, 3.39 ERA), who has been on the road back from injury and put together a very ace-like performance last time out. The Angels will counter with Ricky Nolasco (4-9, 5.14 ERA), who pitched pretty well against Seattle when he faced them previously.

In the MLB odds posted on this game by the folks at BetAnySports, the Mariners are favorites on the road:

Seattle Mariners (Hernandez – R)  -136

Los Angeles Angels (Nolasco – R)  +126

Under 9 Runs  -115

Over 9 Runs  -105

If you take a look at what Seattle has been able to accomplish, they have done it largely without a major contribution from Hernandez, who sat out all of June and much of July with a calf problem that landed him on the disabled list./ He admittedly struggled when he came back against the White Sox, but has been steadily doing better. When he went up against the potent Detroit lineup, he held them to just one run on three hits over seven innings, and that was very encouraging, when you consider that he was very uncomfortable with his mechanics just about ten days before that.

What is still a concern about King Felix is that he is walking too many people. Over his last three outings, covering 20 innings, he has issued twelve bases on balls.

Nolasco, who probably saw his best days as a member of the then-Florida Marlins, has been a model of inconsistency with the Angels, but put in a very credible performance in facing the M’s on May 29, as he gave up just two runs and three hits over six innings. He last pitched at Wrigley Field against the Cubs, allowing two runs on six hits in another six-inning stint. He’s going to need more support than the Halos (15 runs in last seven games) have been used to giving lately.
