Jets Season Wins O/U 6

The New York Jets finished the 2020 season with a disappointing 2-14 record. After multiple transactions trying to acquire players, the Jets fell short again of a winning record. They’ve since fired former Head Coach Adam Gase and hired new Head Coach Robert Saleh. The hiring of Saleh, a proven defensive coordinator in San Francisco, should give the Jets a decent boost. Unfortunately, they’re overshadowed by their AFC East counterparts.

The Jets win total odds come in at a generous six games. Considering their performance in 2020, that’s a significant jump. We have yet to see this team under their new head coach but they should at least improve from last year. BetOnline has the odds at six games. The question now becomes, which is the better bet to make? The Jets winning over six games? Or will New York fall short and win under six. Let’s take a look at what the team has done in the offseason.

After A Long Offseason, How Much Different Are The Jets?

The New York Jets finished the 2020 season with only two wins. By Week 11 they were already eliminated from playoff contention with an 0-11 record. By Week 14 they were 0-13 and it looked as if the New York Jets were headed for a winless season. The 2-14 record was the worst record the Jets claimed since 1996, when they finished 1-15. Now, under a new coach, the Jets will look to claim their first winning season since 2015.

The biggest change, aside from the coach, is the move New York made at quarterback. In the 2020 NFL Draft, the Jets selected Zach Wilson, quarterback from BYU. Wilson is an intelligent quarterback, with a monster arm, similar to Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen. The Jets front office likely wanted to mimich the Bills star and bring in a quarterback unafraid to throw downfield. More than anything, expect the culture to be changed in New York. Robert Saleh is a defensively minded coach and will bring a new intensity to an otherwise lackluster defense.

Is Six Games Too High Of An Expectation?

The Jets were dangerously close to a winless season in 2020 and narrowly did better than their one win season. It’s strange that the win total odds was set at six considering a team like the Houston Texans is at 4. The Jets are under new coaching, have a rookie starting quarterback and a tough schedule. Say the win loss total was set at four, we’d say it’s much more realistic. This team needs time to grow under new coaching. You could think of them being similar to where the New York Giants were, a brand new face under center, and a brand new coach. This team winning six games, even in a seventeen game season, is slightly too high.

What Should Be Expected Of The Jets?

The entire year will be a learning process for the Jets. A new head coach needs time figuring out the best way to use his players. Quarterback Zach Wilson will need to adjust to the speed of the NFL and find his top target. That being said, this should still be a successful season for the Jets, especially compared to previous years. The reality here is that although the Jets likely won’t win over six games, they can still find success. A five-game win season is leaps ahead of the 2-14 season they had under Adam Gase.
