NFL Draft Betting — Niners Have Eyes On Jones With Third Pick…. Don’t They?

When the 32 NFL teams get together on Thursday night for the draft, there will at least some answers for the questions that have continuously been asked And when it comes to questions, the group of quarterbacks you’ll see below have occupied a lot of the inquiries. It’s not going to be surprising to anyone if Trevor Lawrence of Clemson goes to the Jacksonville Jaguars with the first pic, although some nay-sayers have weighed in on that, advising incoming coach Urban Meyer that there is a better choice somewhere else. And maybe it’s one of these people, all of whom will go in the first round. The question is, WHERE? This prop, compiled by the folks at BetOnline and Onlinesportsbet, looks at who might be the THIRD pick in the draft on Thursday night:

* And don’t forget about BetOnline’s NFL Draft contests, both worth $5,000. Read about them in the “Bulletin” at the bottom!

A couple of notes here; the reason Zach Wilson is listed at +4000 is that he is almost certain to be chosen with the #2 pick by the New York Jets, who have traded away their former “quarterback of the future” in Sam Darnold. Wilson really emerged in his junior year. And in this pre-draft process, he climbed up the boards rapidly. The arm strength passes the test, and he is very mobile. So the Jets and their new coach Robert Saleh will eschew going the “veteran” route (well, unless it’s a “seat-warmer”) and spend another high draft pick on the QB spot. And as this whole thing has included a lot of back-and-forths as far as movement of the numbers goes, Justin Fields of Ohio State, who had once been the favorite in this category, is expected to drop down a lot of people’s draft boards because of his recent revelation that he has epilepsy. Surely there are ways to deal with the affliction, but you have to remember that teams are investing millions of dollars on first-round quarterbacks in the draft. And questions arise as to how forthcoming Fields has been with NFL teams, which doesn’t help his cause either. BetOnline patrons should be advised that there have been NFL players who put together a career while managing epilepsy, like Alan Faneca and Ronde Barber. But for those who were wondering why Meyer wouldn’t be favorable toward drafting his own Ohio State quarterback first, it could be that he had knowledge of Fields’ condition. As for the teams that are not scared off, Fields might provide a genuine value pick for later on in the round. The Niners moved up into the #3 spot for the specific purpose of drafting a quarterback, and it’s been said that they were specifically thinking about Jones, who led Alabama to the national title. Jones comes with some controversy as well; a picture of him in a Halloween outfit mocking then-President Obama at age 14 made its way onto Twitter. As for fundamentals, the strength (or lack of same) of his arm has been cited, but this is a guy who completed well over 60% of the passes he threw more than 30 yards down the field in the 2020 season. And he is one of those players who is regarded as “NFL -ready.” But he is rather stationary in the pocket, and maybe NOT so ready to out-run enemy pass rushers. However, for Kyle Shanahan’s offense, which relies a lot on operating with play action with a lot of run-pass balance, he may be the best fit. He is the -200 favorite, at BetOnline, where you can find all the NFL Draft props you can handle, as well as Odds Boosters, which provide a significantly increased payout on pre-selected parlays, every day.
