NFL COMEBACK PLAYER OF THE YEAR ODDS & PREDICTION | OSB

NFL Comeback Player of the Year Odds & Prediction

The NFL Comeback Player of the Year is the highest honor a player can receive when coming off an injury. Usually, this reward is granted to a player that had to overcome something terrible to return to the sport. This could be an injury, a loss in the player’s family, truly any hardship. Last season, the NFL made the right choice when they chose QB Alex Smith as their 2020 NFL Comeback Player of the Year.

Alex Smith returned to play football after nearly losing his leg and his life. His gruesome injury shocked the NFL world but nothing shocked more than Smith’s resilience. Vowing to return to football, Alex Smith worked tirelessly and relentlessly. He made his return, garnering love and admiration across the entire NFL. Fans were enamored by his story of perseverance and inspired by his actions. That’s what it’s going to take to win the 2021 NFL Comeback Player of the Year award. Who do we think will win? Let’s look at the candidates.

QB Joe Burrow: +700 Odds To Win

More often than not, a quarterback wins the NFL Comeback Player of the Year award. The 2019 Comeback Player of the year award was handed to QB Ryan Tannehill. Since 2018, a quarterback has won the award, which is why we chose Joe Burrow to be a great choice. Cincinnati Bengal’s quarterback, Joe Burrow, set the world on fire with his charm and ability.

Burrow was on his way to winning Rookie of the Year when an ACL tear ended his season. Over the offseason, the Bengals added Burrow’s former teammate Ja’Marr Chase to the wide receiving corps. This gives Burrow another weapon in his arsenal and if he can get the Bengals to the playoffs, this award could be his.

RB Saquon Barkley: +700 Odds To Win

Just so nobody can say we’re biased to quarterbacks, we decided to include Barkley. The interesting thing here is per BetOnline, Barkley has the same odds as Burrow. This means, sportsbooks at least believe there’s a chance a running back can win. Sure, it’d be the first time a running back has won in twenty years. However, it’s a possibility. Barkley is a premiere back in the NFL but has struggled to stay healthy in his short career. Last season, the New York Giant tore his ACL in the second week of the season. More than likely, a running back would need a Derrick Henry-like season, eclipsing 2000 yards, to win the award. The truth is, if there’s anyone other than Henry in the NFL that could rush for that many yards, it’s Barkley. We know that when he’s healthy the entire offense flows through Saquon, so keep an eye out for this dark-horse contender.

QB Dak Prescott: +225 Odds To Win

The heavy favorite heading into the season is Dallas Cowboys QB, Dak Prescott. BetOnline has his odds at +225 to win. Prescott is entering his sixth season as a signal-caller and missed games for the first time in 2020. Those missed games were due to a horrifying ankle injury in a video that circulated media. After an offseason spent healing his leg, the quarterback will be back in action.

Dak is a great pick here considering he commands the offense rather well. He’s always put up great stats and, he’s in a similar position as Alex Smith was last season. If you’re looking to play it safe, Prescott’s a great pick. OSB Official Pick: Joe Burrow +700 (at BetOnline) Burrow has the best odds to win this when you take a second to think about it. Burrow missed an entire season due to an injury and didn’t have a chance to compete for Rookie of the Year. Prescott will likely be a push for an MVP award this year, and the payoff would be much higher for you as a bettor.
