THURSDAY NFL ODDS PREVIEW — MIAMI DOLPHINS AT NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS 10/29

Do the Miami Dolphins have a chance to come out of their Thursday night game with three straight victories for interim coach Dan Campbell?

Perhaps less than you would expect, considering that the opponent is the New England Patriots.

BetAnySports customers should know that the numbers have not worked all that well for the Dolphins against the Pats when it comes to playing at Gillette Stadium over the years. In fact, they have lost twelve of the last 13 against a Tom Brady-quarterbacked team up there, although they have won two home games out of the last three overall.

This is the 100th time for these teams to get together, and it will kick off at approximately 8:25 PM ET in Foxborough. Those looking to challenge the NFL odds can get reduced juice before the game and then place wagers while the action is in progress through the facilities of Live Betting Extra.

Only once has a coach won his first three games at the helm of the Dolphins; that was Jimmy Johnson in 1996, and if Campbell is able to accomplish that, he may be able to punch his ticket toward a more “permanent” position on the sidelines with this club into the future.

Yes, the Pats, with a 6-0 record (3-2-1 ATS) will have plenty to say about it, and they have Brady, who has thrown 16 touchdown passes on the season while being intercepted only once. But one could argue that Ryan Tannehill was the hottest quarterback in the league last week, and he is just one of several components that is functioning at a higher level than before Miami made the coaching change.

In the NFL odds that have been posted on this game by the folks at BetAnySports, the Patriots are laying more than a touchdown:

New England Patriots -8

Miami Dolphins +8

Over 50.5 points -110

Under 50.5 points -110

Tannehill has gone insane in the last couple of games, completing 25 passes in a row during one stretch (an NFL record) and going 18 for 19 for 282 yards and four TD’s as the Dolphins put things away by halftime against Houston last week. In the two games since Campbell was promoted from his position as tight ends coach, Miami has outscored its opponents by a 72-36 margin.

A lot of the fundamental things are being done right; Lamar Miller has given them something explosive in the ground game, as he has chalked up 288 yards in the last two. Cameron Wake has six sacks in the last two games – something that should worry this young and patched-up New England offensive line.

Here is something for BetAnySports patrons to chew on – in the last six meetings between these two, three of which have been won by the Dolphins, Brady has completed just below 59% of his passes. He is 69% accurate so far this year.

Opinions vary as to whether New England really needs the help of a stout running game here. They have averaged just shy of four yards per carry, and frankly, they run the ball less than 33% of the time. Brady’s short passing game has a tendency to act like a series of short handoffs, and even if you can stop him temporarily, as the Jets did last week in gaining a late lead, he just keeps coming. Many NFL bettors suspect that he will “get” the Dolphins sooner or later, but maybe the pertinent questions are whether he will be able to create some distance between his club and Miami, or whether the Dolphins’ enthusiasm and momentum will last them long enough to make this one close.
