Sunday Night NFL Betting — San Francisco 49ers at New York Giants (10/11)

By Charles Jay

A few weeks ago, things appeared to looking somewhat bleak for the New York Giants, as they had set a dubious standard of sorts by blowing double-digit fourth quarter leads in their first two games of the season. At that point they could have folded psychologically, but that just wasn’t the case. So after rallying for a couple of decisive wins, the Giants see a path to a division title as they go after their third consecutive victory against a team that is quite possibly on the fast track to oblivion. We are talking about the San Francisco 49ers, who will provide the opposition for the Sunday night NFL game that is slated to begin at 8:30 PM ET at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ. BetAnySports customers are lucky, in the sense that they can take advantage of reduced juice before the game, and then Live Betting Extra after the kickoff, enabling them to put bets down while the action is in progress.

The Giants are at 2-2 straight-up (3-1 against the football pointspread), and things actually look pretty bright for them in the NFC East. The Dallas Cowboys are likely to continue struggling without Tony Romo; the Philadelphia Eagles have not really gotten a handle on their offense, and the Washington Redskins might not have enough firepower. So the Giants, who for all intents and purposes have played well enough to be 4-0, are figuring “why not us?”

That is a contrast to Jim Tomsula, the first-year head coach of the Niners, who could be saying “why me”? after his team has been blitzed to the tune of 107-28 in these last three losses. After a sloppy start, San Francisco looked rather imposing at the line of scrimmage against Minnesota in the opener, but they were just blown out by Pittsburgh and Arizona, and then wasted a decent defensive effort in a 17-3 home loss to Green Bay last Sunday. So what kind of fight will they put up in New Jersey?

In the Sunday night NFL betting odds established on this contest at BetAnySports, the Giants are favored:

New York Giants -6.5 (-115)

San Francisco 49ers  +6.5 (-105)

Over 43.5 points  -110

Under 43.5 points  -110

Everyone knew there was going to be something of a rebuilding job on San Francisco’s stop unit, which lost both starting cornerbacks from last year, along with the likes of Patrick Willis, Aldon Smith, Justin Smith and Chris Borland. They put the clamps on Adrian Peterson in the first week, but they were eaten alive by Ben Roethlisberger and Carson Palmer in the next two games. The stop unit is 30th in the league, as it has allowed 36.6 yards per drive.

On the other side of the ball, the Niners haven’t fared much better. They have scored fewer points on a per-drive basis than any team in the league, and BetAnySports patrons have noticed that they have suffered through substandard quarterback play from Colin Kaepernick, who has been intercepted five times and, despite his ability to move, sacked 14 times.

Carlos Hyde, after 168 yards against the Vikings, appeared to be just the guy to replace Frank Gore (departed to Indianapolis) in the San Francisco backfield. But he has just 114 yards in three games since. Furthermore, the Niners are not all that likely to get a “ground and pound” thing going here, as the Giants have done a pretty outstanding job against opposing rushing attacks (3.1 ypc, 69.8 ypg allowed).
