Pro Football Odds — Buffalo Bills at Oakland Raiders
By Charles Jay
The Oakland Raiders just keep rolling along. They are in command of the AFC West with a 9-2 record, and now they entertain the Buffalo Bills in a game that is slated to begin at 4:05 PM ET at the Oakland Coliseum. If you become a BetAnySportscustomer, you will get reduced juice before the game, and then once it kicks off, you can place wagers even while it is happening, as you access the state-of-the-art software available through Live Betting Ultra.
The Raiders had a close call last week against the Carolina Panthers, as they had a 17-point lead then blew it. But they gathered themselves and came out with a 35-32 victory. Derek Carr was also happy to get out of it in one piece, as he dislocated his right pinky finger and had to wear a special glove. They held Cam Newton to just 14 of 28 passing, but that didn’t necessarily answer all the questions about the defense, which is allowing a robust 4.6 yards per carry.
If the Raiders don’t stiffen up, they will have difficulty against this Buffalo offense, which is #1 in the NFL in rushing, piling up 157 yards per game. Shady McCoy is averaging 5.2 yards an attempt, and the Bills have a quarterback in Tyrod Taylor who may be the most dangerous run threat at his position in the NFL (439 yards, 6.3 per carry).
In the pro football odds posted on this game by the folks at BetAnySports, the Raiders are the favorites, but the Bills are getting some respect:
Oakland Raiders -3
Buffalo Bills +3
Over 48 points -110
Under 48 points -110
There is a flip side with Taylor, and it is that he has been sacked 30 times this season. That doesn’t normally happen with a guy who has enough mobility to evade a pass rush. But he is still a little unsure of himself as a passer. And that is an open invitation for somebody like Khalil Mack, who’s got nine sacks and stripped Newton last week to help Oakland wrap up the win.
The Buffalo defense is being built in Rex Ryan’s image, and that makes some sense, since his twin brother Rob came aboard this season as an assistant. BetAnySports patrons know that this team has registered 33 sacks, and this will provide an intriguing matchup as they go up against Carr, who is having a season that is worthy of Pro Bowl recognition. Carr has not only completed 66% of his passes and thrown 22 touchdowns against just five interceptions, but he has been sacked only 13 times. Hisoffensive line is highly-regarded, and deservedly so, but that also says something about Carr’s ability to make decisions quickly.
Percy Harvin was signed a few weeks ago by the Bills, but he will sit out this game with an illness. But Sammy Watkins came back strong last week against Jacksonville, as he caught three passes for 80 yards, including a 62-yarder that set up a TD. His presence as a big-play guy is important to help open things up for Taylor and the Buffalo running game. McCoy has run for over 100 yards five times this season, and the Bills have won in each and every instance that has happened.
