Spencer Rattler Heisman Odds

Easily leading the odds to win the Heisman Trophy per BetOnline is Oklahoma Sooner quarterback Spence Rattler. It isn’t hard to see why he’s the odds on favorite either. Rattler is an elite passer but knows how to tuck the ball and go too. He’s led the Sooners to plenty of victories and could be considered NFL-ready, today. Rattler is one of those unique players that although they’re at the top, want to get better.

Recently, Rattler released a tweet detailing that he’s “tapped into another level this year”. You can guess what that’ll mean for opposing defenses. Essentially, Rattler is the favorite for the Heisman cause he’s just too good not to be. Another important note is that the offense runs solely through him. Some of the other competitors for the Heisman, Bryce Young, for example, still have on the training wheels. With Rattler, he is the Oklahoma Sooner offense, which means he determines his Heisman status. So, why should you take Rattler to win the Heisman Trophy?

Rattler’s 2020 Outing Was Impeccable

Unless you’re arguing that Spencer Rattler will have a worse year in 2021, his 2020 stats speak for themselves. Even if he was to have a slight drop-off, if he’s near the same 172.6 quarterback rating, he’ll take the Heisman home. Rattler completed 67.5% of his passes last season, going 214-317, and threw for 3,031 yards. He led his team to wins in the Big 12 Championship and in the Cotton Bowl. Rattler is a natural-born leader and would be considered a great top-ten draft pick in the NFL Draft next year.

When comparing him with another former Heisman Trophy winner, Joe Burrow, you can see similar tendencies. Both of them are leaders that their teammates look up to, and the team’s offense ran through them. It’s not just the Heisman Trophy that Rattler is a favorite to win either, he’s also up for the Maxwell Award and the Walter Camp Player of the Year Award. Along with, the Davey O’Brien and Manning Award, honoring the nation’s best college quarterback.

What About His Competition?

There are two guys that are near Rattler in the odds, however, we don’t believe they’ll have the same outing. Currently, per BetOnline, D.J. Uigalelei, QB, Clemson, is a +750 favorite to win the Heisman Trophy. He follows closely behind Spencer Rattler’s +600. Uigalelei is a favorite due to the team he’s on. Clemson has always made their quarterbacks look great, and Uigalelei should be no different. However, there’s one big problem, Uigalelei barely saw any time on the field in 2020.

The same is said about Bryce Young, who was the backup in Alabama last season. Young comes in at +900 odds to win the Heisman Trophy, just behind Uigalelei. The odds shaped up this way because more often than not a quarterback wins the Heisman Trophy. However, these two are much better candidates to win it next year, rather than the 2021 season.

Our Take On Spencer Rattler

Rattler is a generational quarterback that won’t just have success in college, but in the NFL as well. He’s not a one-dimensional guy and he reads defenses well. Oklahoma gives him every opportunity he needs to shine, which is why he did so in 2020. Normally, we don’t like playing favorites, but there’s a clear reason why he’s the favorite to win the Heisman.

If you’re looking for a nearly guaranteed bet, look no further than Spencer Rattler taking the Heisman Trophy home this year. His competition is a little too young to steal it from him, as they’ll have some growing pains this season. Next year though, both of them could be great options as Heisman Trophy winners.
