This Friday night’s college football betting action at BetAnySports features a Texas-sized showdown between the Big 12’s TCU Horned Frogs and the SMU Mustangs playing out of the AAC. Kickoff from Gerald J. Ford Stadium on ESPN2 is set for 8 p.m.
The Horned Frogs rolled over Southern University 55-7 in their season opener on Saturday, but they could not cover the spread as huge 50-point favorites with BetAnySports on their home field. There was no posted total line for this game. TCU went 4-2 both straight-up and against the spread on the road last season and the total stayed UNDER in five of those six games. It failed to cover in five of its last seven games overall.
Shawn Robinson got the start at quarterback for TCU in Week 1 and he completed 17-of-24 passing attempts for 182 yards and three touchdowns. He also added another 45 yards on two carries as the team’s second-leading rusher. The Horned Frogs piled up 235 yards on the ground in that game on 42 rushing attempts.
SMU took on the Conference USA’s North Texas Mean Green in its season opener and ended up on the wrong end of a 46-23 loss as a 3.5-point road underdog with BetAnySports. The total stayed UNDER the closing 71.5-point line. The Mustangs closed out the 2017 season with four SU losses in their last five games while going 1-4 ATS. The total went OVER in three of the five games. SMU has failed to cover in eight of its last nine contests overall.
The Mustangs scored all 23 points in the fourth quarter after the game was already out of hand. Ben Hicks went the distance at quarterback and he ended that game with 252 yards passing and two touchdowns against one interception. After losing 28 yards on six rushing attempts, Hicks dropped the team’s rushing total to just four yards on the day.
The gap between TCU and SMU is rather wide coming into Friday night’s in-state battle. Look for the Horned Frogs to widen that gap on the scoreboard to easily win the game both SU and ATS.
